There was this one-hour figure skating special on I think CBS around 1999 or 2000 that covered a bunch of scandals. Mainly, I remember them talking about the Grishuk/Usova/Zhulin scandal and how Maya slammed Pasha's head down on a counter in a bar. It was called On Thin Ice, or Thin Ice or something like that. I've been trying to find it but I can't remember the actual name, and my internet search has brought up nothing good. Anyone know what I'm talking about? I think the Tonya Harding scandal was also on it, and maybe something about Oksana Baiul but I can't remember about Baiul.

Hmmm - the dramatization given, this documentary is more about the scandal than the actual skating. It's been years since, and I'd like to know what the people involved think about it with a little distance. Thank you for posting it, floskate.

The thing I actually found the most offensive is that Pasha allegedly said to Evgeny that he was only responsible for 20% of their Olympic gold. What a slap in the face.. if I put years of work in with a partner and they told me that, I would be super mad. I don't see Evgeny as the inferior partner in the team at all. If anything, he's slightly better than Pasha.

Agreed with most posted here. I'd like to add a Japanese Denise Biellman documentary and a small program about Dutch figure skaters Sjoukje Dijkstra and Joan Haanappel, Ice Storm about Sale/Pelletier in 2002 Olympics. I love most documentaries. There are many new ones on YouTube, mostly from Korea and Japan with English subtitles. There are also more Russian documentaries, not all subtitled. I think fsvids.net has the most available. I remember one about Slutskaya and one called 'Roses for Elena' I think, it was about Bereznaiah/Shikhuralidze. I especially enjoy the ones from past decades as they help to get to know those skaters better and to get an idea of skating back then. What about 'Die grossen sportduelle' episode about Killius/Baumler and the Protopopovs? Or 'The real John Curry', 'Sonja Henie Queen on Ice' , 'Kufen die die Welt bedeuten', Robin Cousins Gold on Ice and Generations, Jury of Nine about the judging in those days, there are so many great documentaries. I love them all. Can't find them all on YouTube though, most are on fsvids.net only.

Not sure to call it fluff or documentary, but:
Yuna Kim S diary MCB with Eng subs

    The real John Curry
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FBpyePyCpjs (part 1, the rest is also on YouTube)

    John Curry's 50 Golden Days

Facing the music Torvill and Dean
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2-2J1Xi07fU (part 1, more on YouTube)

    Hot ice of Irina Slutskaya
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z6eb2wFuHgo (part 2, can't find part 1 on YouTube, it has no Eng subs and is in Russian)

Not really a documentary, but this is an hour long broadcast of 1988 Olympic Ladies Long program, complete with medal ceremony:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=stCjUMic98k (Russian channel broadcast with Rodnina interview at the end, no subs)

1980 Olympic Ladies sp and lp, about 49 minute broadcast, with podium:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MMWvqmoHVdE (Russian language, no subs)

1968 Olympic ladies lp, about 47 minutes, no podium:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MayZNWzPZtA (Russian language, no subs)

And these are the Pairs from 1968, about 41 minutes
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iwyITGJcTuQ

Here the 1968 Men, about 49 minutes:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KPMngw7uVEA

I was looking for 'Skate to Survive' about Ellen Burka on YouTube, found this, about 47 minutes, seems to be the same documentary:
    Story
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2302Tb65Wqo

Duchesnays 'Missing I' documentary (found while actually looking for 1989 ctv documentary)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qLOxPbTk5Ss

There is so much on YouTube in different languages. If you look each year, you're bound to find a new 'old' or recent figure skating documentary.

The reason part 1 of 50 Golden Days is missing is that youtube took it down due to IOC copyright and I can't re-upload it or my account might be suspended. S sorry

A documentary cut in 6 parts on the Duchesnays' carreer:

    Part 6:

Although my french is lousy, it is my favourite, I found it on YT not too long ago. I also like very much the slow motion video of "Missing" that sadya posted.

That's allright. Thank you to you and everybody else for sharing whatever you all could. It is very much appreciated. And we are lucky to at least have the complete documentary on fsvids.net.

I did not understand why Linda Fratianne and Annet Poetzsch were written out of history in Fire on Ice.

Awwwww, 12-year-old Jan Hoffmann is so adorable! (First skater in the video.)

I think there is a thread here somewhere where you can watch many skaters in their younger years. It's quite interesting to see the development as they mature and learn more about skating and music and movement.

There are many other threads here that focus on skating history, with footage, also.

sadya, please take a look at the "Retrospective" event threads, started by Maofan7.
They are loaded with historic/documentary footage to which many of us have contributed.

These are wonderful!! Thank you so much for this! It's so nice to explore the history and get back to the basics in the midst of all the recent controversies and to be reminded why we all love this sport!

thanks for all the links maofan and everyone, i hope global warming lets me get snowed in one more time.

i too love the jim mckay tribute to mk. "the ice skating world will be a darker place without her shining above it."
I feel like I'm in a dream. But it can't be a dream because there are no boy dancers!
