    1. Ally McBeal (though I've only seen it once ; I've never heard of the others)

    2. Spotted Dick is delicious. No one in Britain really takes any notice of the name, though one supermarket threatened to call it 'Spotted Richard'.
I have yet to try Nipples of Venus but nipples are generally very nice.

Silliest poll in the Trash Can:

Who is the better skater: Kwan or Cohen?
Which skaters can beat a clean Yu Na Kim if they also skate cleanly?
Chan, Lambiel, Lysacek, Joubert, Tak, who had best and poorest career?
What would top 10 at 2006 Olympics ladies event been if all had been there and clean? (which mysteriously includes Kim and Asada even though they were too young to go)

I have a friend who puts salt and pepper on her pineapple.

I'm always willing to try something new, but some of those sound a bit awful. I'll go for the Lavender and Dark Chocolate Chip.

Ignoring whether or not she landed the jumps properly, Chen Lu's 'The Last Emperor' FS or her 'Butterfly Lovers' FS?

    1) ALL OF THEM. Or just the avocado ice cream.
    2) Not an easy choice. I'll go with "Butterfly Lovers" for now.

Surpassingly evil Trash Can thread ideas for summer:

    - So, how would you cast "Friends on Ice"?
    - Who will win the ladies' singles OGM at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan?
    - The Wolfgang Schwarz Fan Thread
    - Your Favorite Figure Skating Falls
    - Top Ten Politically Conservative Programs on Ice (A National Review-style thread in which Belbin/Agosto's Amen FD is praised for its unashamed invocation of Judeo-Christian themes, and in which Yagudin's Gladiator LP is commended for promoting traditional masculine values.)
    - The Let's Psychoanalyze the Skaters Thread!
    - Which of Irina Slutskaya's Children Will Have the More Successful Eligible Career, Artem or Varvara?
    - Transgressive Subtexts in the Programs of Your Favorite Skaters (Michal Brezina really was playing the part of a lesbian golfer in his An American in Paris program. He was interrogating the persistence of Fifties-style heteronormativity in the sport and the placement-lowering falls were choreographed expressly to convey the character's annoyance at--and complicity in--her own invisibility.)
    - Poll- What's Your Favorite FS-Sponsoring Junk Food? (Choices would include Smuckers Uncrustables, Hershey's Symphony chocolates, Diet Sprite--beverages aren't food, but whatever--and one or two other options.)
    - Should triple and quadruple jumps be banned from competitive skating?

    1. What ARE Smuckers Uncrustables? They've yet to reach these shores, and sound revolting.

If people were honest (not that I think for a moment that they're not) then I think 'Your Favourite Figure Skating Falls' would be most popular. However, as everyone but me is scrupulously dishonest, then 'Let's Psychoanalyse the Skaters Thread' would elicit much fawning, much bitching and all covered over with a sauce of turgid pretentiousness.

    2. Creamy Guacamole with Garlic. Mmmm.

So, who will win the ladies' singles at Nagano in 1998?

I can't answer that as we have very different laws in the UK.

Pie-crusted frisbees with peanut butter and jelly in them. They can be found in the frozen section at supermarkets everywhere in the US. I've never tried them, but seeing the banner on the boards has always made me .

You're probably right. Perhaps I should have written "Favorite Falls by Your Favorite Skaters" instead.

    1) Nah for now.

John Cazale in Godfather Part 2. What a loss.

    The Deer Hunter:

    Very powerful and moving
    Entertaining with good performances
It was OK but it didn't touch my heart
    Jingoistic, historically dubious and sentimental

    2, 4, and (occasionally) 1.

the wedding and reception in The Deer Hunter
the graduation and ball in Heaven's Gate (It's so obviously filmed at Hertford College, not Harvard College, that I'm taken out of the scene even before I see that fortysomethings Hurt and Kristofferson are supposed to be university graduates.)
    neither
purple never seen one, the other, or either

But you love Heaven's Gate. Don't you?

I thought the first scenes and the wedding reception in The Deer Hunter formed the best section.

    I've never seen Heaven's Gate.

As screenwriters, Noel Coward or Graham Greene?

Yes, but I watch it behind a rather thick layer of glass during the first few scenes. And my self-advertised love of it is guilty and tacky rather than bold.

    Gabriel Garcia Marquez

I didn't like House of the Spirits much.

    Gabriela Mistral or Pablo Neruda?
