    2%.

    fun with vocabulary:

beakhead - decorative stone carvings in the archways of Norman and Romanesque churches, often depicting beasts with watchful, minatory stares.
green men - sculptural representations of the human face surrounded (or appearing to be in some degree constituted) by vegetation, especially leaves. Oh, and here's a picture of Jon Voigt.
sheela-na-gig - grotesque medieval apotropaia carved from stone, depicting women with exaggerated vulvae and the occasional man. The main reason why hurricanes hardly ever happen in Hereford.
corbel - a support for structural projections from the wall of which it is an intrinsic part.
chancel - the area surrounding the altar of a traditionally designed Christian church.
Corinium Dobunnorum - Where the off-Camulodonum satires played 1,950 years ago; now Cirencester, UK.
scrump - to steal fruit. Candy-loving wastrel that I was as a small child, I just threw it into the canal.

^omg, there's a string course over the front entrance of New York's Cathedral of St. John the Divine which looks exactly like that.

Yes, I've seen it; it helps give the Cathedral some horizontal stress to balance the vertical lines. However, I'm not sure you're exactly right as I believe it has a Greek key design, typical of its era.

My mistake and it's just as well. For one thing, those perpetually bouncing disks would be ruinously expensive to maintain.
