I agree about the glide and power. Just watching him do crossovers was a pleasure.

I suppose Abt wasn't robbed though for those who didn't care much for his skating but who loved Yagudin's skating.

True, but not highly likely he is going to have a partner that can match him on that skill!

If this is true indeed, I wish him the best of luck. As a true Abt-fan (our club performed in a little show with him back in 1999 and all the mothers were about him ) who was absolutely devastated as a 13-year-old when he was robbed at Euros 2002 I'd really really love to see him compete again. Whether in pairs or whatever. I just think it will be quite difficult for him but then again...stranger things have happened

I am still quite convinced this is an April Fool's joke.

Unless Sasha wants to try joining #geezerfest2014.

I haven't seen anything else in the Russian or English language press on this story, but according to his Facebook Abt is in Minsk.

Or for those who liked them both and could appreciate that Yagudin did enough important things better under the standards of the time to be at least equally deserving of the win.

I love Yagudin's skating, believe me. But Abt was robbed, and Alexei also knew it.

He was a gorgeous skater so smooth just beautiful to watch. He was also very musical I loved his skating -- I never got tired of watching him even with falls he always kept my attention!

Belorussian media is reporting that Alexander Abt will compete in pairs for Belarus and is looking for a partner in Minsk right now: http://www.tvr.by/eng/news.asp?id=2253&cid=18
If state-controlled Belarusian media report it, it has got to be true!

One of my favourite skaters, ever! His camel spin position was just perfect!

You don't know how much I wish it was true. 'Artsakh' might well be my fave men's SP ever.

And I concur with those who feel he was robbed of the 2002 Euro title.

On another note, was I the only one who liked Timchenko?

If he were, I was going to suggest Johnny give him a try out . Galina really doesn't seem to have worked out all that well. Not sure who is at fault. Maybe both.

Nope.. Jesus Christ Superstar with the blood on the shirt rocked

I wish Abt had switched to ice dance years ago. Wasn't his (ex?) wife an ice dancer?
