I am so excited to have Skate America so close to home.

The Detroit Marathon is on that Sunday though which could cause a problem for traffic. I know they normally close down all area roads for the marathon. Could be a traffic nightmare on Sunday but I'll find a way to be there. Can't wait!

That's great news for Detroit, a city that could certainly use some. I hope that having the reigning world champs in Ice Dance will prove to be a draw for ticket sales.

Well now that does bring in an option. While I have said I won't go travel for Skate America I was just looking at doing the Detroit Half. If I decide to that then I might do at least a session or two.

The official hotel is out in Dearborn (why USFSA picked that one when there's a Doubletree a few blocks from the arena ), so the athletes will be trying to get through traffic on Sunday, too. Do they close off all access to downtown for the marathon?

I really don't expect there to be a problem. The marathon is held in the morning, and I think the skating is in the afternoon. Marathon people will have moved out by then. Can't speak to the hotel situation. I'd be more concerned that the Tigers might be having a playoff game those days (hopefully).

The marathon will be over by 11am and Sunday should be the Exhibition in the afternoon.

At Skate America the dance and ladies finals are on Sunday plus the exhibition (except in 2010 they had the men and pairs finals on Sunday). There are also practices in the morning, usually pretty early, so there could be an issue getting downtown for those.

The Doubletree in Dearborn. It's about a twenty minute drive from the arena.
