Skating to Miss Saigon, Les Misérables, & Schönberg/Boublil musicals

My favourite Kim Yu-Na free program is her 2007/08 LP to Claude-Michel Schönberg/Alain Boublil's, Miss Saigon (2008 World Championships, 2007 Cup of Russia). Moreover, her free program this season is to another Schönberg/Boublil musical, Les Misérables (2013 World Championships). Other figure skating programs constructed and choreographed around Miss Saigon and Les Misérables include:-

    Miss Saigon

Michelle Kwan - 1992/93 LP (1993 US Nationals)

Sarah Meier - 1999/00 LP (2000 Junior World Championships)

Patricia Neske - 1991/92 LP (1992 World Championships)

    Les Misérables

Todd Eldredge - 1998 Olympics SP

Nathalie Péchalat & Fabian Bourzat - 2005/06 FD (2006 World Championships)

Michelle Kwan - On My Own (Exhibition)

Midori Ito - On My Own (1992 Olympics Exhibition)

So, which are your favourite Miss Saigon and Les Misérables programs, or programs to other Schönberg/Boublil musicals, such as The Pirate Queen, Martin Guerre, Marguerite, and La Révolution Française?

We've had two "Les Mis" threads already:

    http://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/show...ght=miserables

I love Olga Markova's "Miss Saigon." Trying to find the best performance of it on YouTube:

Some very good news in that the team behind the 2012 Les Misérables film may be making Miss Saigon next. Cameron Mackintosh states that should Les Mis reach $500 million in box office receipts (i.e. gross profits), then he will look to get a film made. So far, Les Mis has made $429,749,505. Hence, looks like its on course to hit the magic $500 million mark. Even if it slightly misses its target in terms of gross profits, I doubt it would derail the Miss Saigon film. The net profits for Les Mis still look pretty impressive, even as they stand at present. The film cost $61 million to make. As a rule of thumb, the marketing budget usually matches the production costs - hence, another $61 million (i.e. combined production and marketing costs = $122 million). The distributors/cinema owners then take around half of what is left = $153,874,752.5. Accordingly, the net profits would be around $429,749,505 - $122,000,000 - $153,874,752.5 = $153,874,752.5. For a musical, that is extremely impressive. Its about the same as Chicago (2002 film) made once adjusted for inflation, and considerably better than Moulin Rouge!. If it goes onto make $500 million, then it will have outperformed Chicago. Like the Les Misérables film, the stage version was initially panned by critics. However, as with the stage version, looks like the public thought otherwise about the film and have come out in large numbers to see it. Lets face it, the critics just don't like Les Misérables full stop, and are never going to like it no matter how its made or produced. They don't like the subject matter, and don't believe that it should have been made into a musical in the first place.

My most favorite skate to Miss Saigon is by Paul Wylie at the 1992 world pro (Why God why), but I can't find it on yt.

Also Peter & Kitty Carruthers had a good skate to Sun and Moon (Miss Saigon) at the 1991 or 1992 world pro. I can't find yt for it either. I have both programs on VHS at home.

Nancy Kerrigan -Miss Saigon (I would give my life to you):

Also Nancy Kerrigan and Paul Wylie skated a 'pairs' routine to Miss Saigon as an exhibition at the 92 Oly.

ETA: I found Paul Wylie's 92 number Why God Why, but it is without sound, due to copyrights. The skating is still beautiful.

A little correction here? - I thought Midori's 1992 Olympic exhibition was her "Rain" medley

Favorites - Paul Wylie's "Why, God, Why?" I also loved his "pairs" duet with Nancy in Albertville (and in the 12/10 Golden Age of US Figure Skating show in Atlantic City, NJ) - "The Last Night of the World"

    Michelle's "On My Own"

    Todd's "Les Mis" medley sp

On My Own was Midori's encore in Albertville and is in the second half of the video that Maofan posted.

^ Oh, I see. Thank you! Definitely have to watch that!

Another Les Mis Program I loved - Moore Towers/Moskovitch did a free skate medley of Les Mis songs a few seasons back.

I have such conflicted thoughts about Miss Saigon. On one hand, such a racist musical, but I enjoy some of the songs and I love the skating performances to it

Here's a rare one. US skater Stacey Pensgen skated to Martin Guerre.

Josee Chouinard also skated to On My Own. Caroline Zhang too. Who hasn't used it? Most unoriginal exhibition ever for women!
I heard Katarina Witt skated to Les Mis, too, but I never saw the program. Caryn Kadavy skated to I Dreamed a Dream. I think Sydne Vogel skated to Les Mis as well.

She skated to the German version of On My Own, which I loved. I have it on tape somewhere - someday I'll convert it and upload to youtube.

The very first On My Own that I saw was Barbara Underhill and Paul Martini at 1988 World Pros.

I don't know if this has been mentioned. Nicole Bobek skated to a Les Mis medley at one of the US nationals- I can't remember which one, but probably in the early 1990's. I will search for the yt in the evening (can't do it at work). She was so charismatic!

Your absolutely right, it was her 1992/93 LP (skating to it at 1993 U.S. Nationals, and earlier in the season at 1992 Skate America)

Witt also skated a French version of it, one of first program I remember watching, at Miko Masters 1994.

from this link, Caryn Kaday used 'I dreamed a dream' at same even one year earlier; would have to check if reference is made on the other links

I found my tape. Witt's performance was from the 1989 Tour of Champions. My tape being 24 years old, the quality isn't great, but I checked FSvids, and the Canadian TV version is available for download. The quality is quite good.

Has anyone skated to Pirate Queen yet? If so, vids, please! If not, of course, it'd be beautiful, especially for a dance team. And "Woman" would make a kick-a$$ EX for a lady who thinks of herself as a) a tomboy; b) a major innovator, technically; or c) a huge fan of the song.

Marguerite never got the attention it deserved, period, so I doubt we'll see anyone skating to it.

Yuna Kim skated to Miss Saigon in 2007-2008 season I believe? Beautiful program by David Wilson, she skated it justice many times and even included 3loop! Like for instance at GPF http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wC2U_qmvUnU
