Paradoxically, I don't approve of visible panty lines much more than I don't approve of crotch shots. Kinda 1/2 Emily Post, 1/2 Lady Gaga.he tights are sheer and show the panty and crotch lines

No, it wasn't all that bad ... but why oh why do photographers have such a hard time taking a decent photo of a gorgeous girl performing a beautiful sport? It's not like they have to pay for each photo they take. Why can't they take and use GOOD photos?
O-
and the Stranger has picked up on the "crotch shot that rocked Canada".
usually they only care about skating when Johnny Weir is involved, so good for Kaetlyn!
Q: Why can't I read the competition threads?
A: Competition forums on the board are available to those with a Season Pass or a premium membership How to View Kiss & Cry
The entire photo is not the most flattering(crotch shot or not). Of all the snaps the photographer took, how could that be the best one?
"Life is just one crushing defeat after another until you just wish Flanders was dead." - Homer Simpson
The headline made a pun about kicking or legs up or something. So it may have been an editorial decision to support that rather than a photographer saying "this is great". Of course, it turned out to be a poor decision based on the silly uproar.
Based on all the horrible photos of skaters I don't think photographers get much say or editors have good taste.
Newspaper skating photos have tended toward the sensational or sexualized in my lifetime. Perhaps in past decades they were more respectful and showed ladies' spirals or laybacks. I recall many creepy mid-jump faces, still images of spins that look pornographic, or falls with flailing arms or legs. The falls I can understand from a reporting perspective, but they are still sensational. I know some people find it disrespectful to show images of an athlete falling who does more on that night than the one or two falls pictured, but I think pictures of a fall can tell a story and represent agony...
ETA: Except photos of Patrick's falls because he gets to celebrate after them
I don't know what story crotch shots tell...

From the description I heard on CBC's As It Happens, I thought the costume had slipped and her, er, flower was on display. But this just shows her strength, flexibility, and balance. It's a good figure skating photo. If one has a fetish for crotches, I suppose one could stare at that strip of fabric there and imagine what lies under it, but most of us have better things to do, like appreciate skating.
This reader's comment killed me. I will attempt to censor it somewhat for I myself clutched my pearls a bit during my reading. You can go to the link to read the full comment if you must.

I don't understand why they let these hussies parade their womanhood around in public like that. These trollops should be wear more modest attire, as befitting their position as the young flowers of Canada. They should be wearing ankle-length skirts, by Jove, and skating around in decorous figure-eights -- not flinging their naked thighs... in front of the cameras!
Again, nothing was on display on that photo. Jesus Christ, can't some people get a life.
There are two different weights of mondors, but even the thin ones have appropriate coverage. I agree with what you said.
I'm honest, just not always in a nice way![]()
So it's not okay to show an action shot of Kaetlyn who is fully covered and wearing tights, but nobody minds when we get action shots of gymnasts, who are often younger and are wearing much higher cuts and no tights? Goodness.

BTW here's the Globe and Mail public editor's column about the picture. Illustrated with a different picture of Osmond

What I find hilarious is the choice of that particular photo out of the thousands upon thousands of pictures taken of Katelyn during Worlds!!! Surely there must have been at least a few choices better than that one????There were cameras EVERYWHERE she went!
All reports are no technic, but filled with enthusiasm for FIRST WORLDS!!!!!!!
