Losing to Leonova at FSCOR really did Gosviani no favors I guess! But obviously COR TBA is still open and she could get it.

Polina K is 22 in World Standings, so guaranteed 1 assignment, Nikol is only 53 & her seasons best wasn't enough to guarantee a place either.

The scores were high this season and the spots in the top 24 were filled up by a number of junior ladies, if you watched the event, the junior ladies FS at the JGPF was quite something and the top 5 all put up very impressive scores. The American girls who did well there though, Miller and Wang, are not even competing in the GP so it is a bit of a bummer that due to that, other skaters who do wish to skate senior do not get to be moved up the list.

Seven of the scores above Gosviani's Euros scores -- a little more than 1/5 -- were junior performances. Of the remaining 26 senior skaters above her -- there was a tie for 27 -- 13 were from 4C's countries; Amelie Lacoste, less than a point ahead of her at #32, was 9th at 4C's where she earned her SB.

It's a tough field out there. I had to check and check again to believe it.

    Interview with Nikita Katsalapov

    - He & Elena have been working in America for a month, but he is now back in Moscow for his graduation from the State Academy of Physical Education & also to do his military service.
    - They have been working hard to prepare for the new season with various specialists & he says they hope to surprise the judges with their new elements & fresh inspirations
    - They spent a few days working with Shpilband on technique - he sounds very positive about it, & was just disappointed they could not spend more time with him.
    - This pre season has been different from the others that that they have spent in the US. They are focusing on their relationship on the ice, working with Cirque de Soleil specialists, no time for Broadway trips (RIP the Ghost program....) All their time is spent on the ice or in the gym & building an understanding of what they need to do for the Olympic season.
    - They are now working on the programs, the music is chosen and they are focusing on technique.

Men's GP assignments for this season are the royal screwover again with Tarasova's politics in the background. Golden boy Kovtun gets two, Menshov gets one, Voronov gets one, Gachinski gets one. No name for the host pick at CoR yet but assume one of those three will get it as a second.

Plushenko using CoR presumably as a test run for his bionic spine.

I'm surprised Stolbova and Klimov only got one assignment.

I'm surprised too, maybe they'll get the TBA at CoR?

I hope Klimov recovers in time and that he and Stolbova are ready for SA.

ETA: Depending on the extent of his injury, if the Russian Fed wants to try to guarantee them one event, they might want to assign S/K to the TBA at RC. If they are only assigned to SA, and they have to withdraw, they can't be assigned to another. If they are assigned to both SA and RC and have to withdraw from SA, they can compete (if he's healthy, and they are prepared) at RC. If they compete at SA, the Russian Fed can re-assign the RC spot to another team.

good that they are working on technique- if they are really working as so many people involved with them say they don't really work, they kind of half work- because they were 15th in TES at worlds! Just a stunning total collapse in tech from Euros. It's like they didn't do anything between euros and worlds.

Alexei Mishin: "For the development of new programs, we have attracted a wide range of professionals"

Skaters of coach Alexei Mishin - Evgeni Plushenko, Arthur and Elizabeth Gachinsky Tuktamysheva began preparations for the new season. About where and how to prepare athletes what professionals involved in the work, said the famous coach Alexei Mishin.

    - Alexei Nikolaevich, Evgeni Plushenko started to put new programs, Lisa Tuktamysheva and Arthur Gachinski at training camp in Italy. All right?
    - I will start by saying that this year, for the first time in the history of my life in the sport and I felt my students attentive attitude of our doctors, the Figure Skating Federation, specialists from the Federal Medical-Biological Agency (FMBA) to study the state of the real athletes. I received a very detailed recommendations for each of their students, for which I thank the FMBA professionals and all those who participated in the survey of athletes, our team of doctors and Jaroslav Anikanova Victor Bugaev, because on the basis of this valuable information, we have made plans to work on physical training. Eugene spent his fee on GPP in Kislovodsk. Lisa and Arthur is now the south of Italy, in the city of Bari.
    ...

    - Lisa and Arthur talked a little bit about the new programs, new professionals whom you have drawn.
    ...
But ideally for the modern figure skating, a combination of resources and professional dance "katatelnogo" skill. And to that end, we have involved the Canadian figure skater Jeffrey Buttle.

    - Why Use him?
    - Because Battle is one of the brightest representatives of high culture skating. Canadian no different consummate skill execution of jumps, but it has always been considered one of the best in terms of skiing. From this point of view, from this perspective, I drew Jeffrey as an assistant to practice with Eugene, Lisa and Arthur.
Battle will come to us in Italy. However, due to the demand and employment will stay for long. He plans to deal with the guys for a few days, five or six. I think that the combination of theatrical choreographic culture and mastery of the ridge Jeffrey Buttle will give the result that we have to show in the Olympic season.

    - An interesting combination.
    - You know, none of the choreographer of the Kirov or Mariinsky Theatre has such a subtle flair skate like Jeffrey Buttle. In turn, Jeffrey Buttle does not have such a high choreographic culture, such clean lines and the unity of the various components, as professional dancers of classical and contemporary ballet. Overseas choreographers are not professional choreographers in our sense of the word. Emphasize, in our understanding. They hear the music loud, hard, soft, weak, thin, rough ... They stick to 'choreography senses. " Choreography based on the ridge, engineering, volume, rhythm. A classic theater choreographers put the program on the basis of work, age, personality of the composer, themes, ideas, spirit ... But both sides, both components are needed in figure skating. Unfortunately, I give my professional secrets, because, perhaps, is one of the elders of our shop skating. But to be called an elder - not bad, because on the one hand, the experience gained, and on the other, there remains a sense of youth, novelty, direct search.

    - This is great. You have raised a very interesting topic, but let me go back to the more mundane things. How long will gather in Italy?
    - Month. From June 17 to July 17.

    - For the purpose of testing new software to plan your summer skaters to participate in the show?
    - Speaking of the Zhenya, he received the sea offers. But we discussed it and this year agreed only on one thing. In the second half of July, when it will be necessary to check something, Jack will go on show in Japan. And if everything goes as we plan, there will speak for the first time in public.

Yuri Larionov says that Oksana Grishuk went to New Jersey to work with I&K.

It sounds like the Russians (both pairs and dance) are really keen on getting some kind of input from Shpilband.

So does that mean that Ilinykh will be blonde next season and rehash Makarova's Marilyn program?
