Because there is no sales tax on clothing or shoes, we get great shopping. People from NYC come here, so that they don't have to pay sales tax. There is tax on luxury: jewelry, fur, etc. If you made the trip, I would do it with a plan to do other things, as well. Go up to Woodbury Commons. Go into the city for a show.
We do have direct flights from Edmonton to Newark now, but after how much I spent on the left coast last weekend, I don't think I'll be going anywhere for at least another year if not longer. There's some fun stuff to do in Jersey of course other than just shop and hopefully things will start to really recover from Sandy if not now then in the distant future. For now, I'm good with the items that I did buy, I spent last night with my nose buried in a Lauren Weisberger novel, so now it's time to live vicariously through those characters instead of actually going out and spending $$$ that I now don't have.

Marc was always tiffed - and he tiffed everyone around him too - he loved to style us. But I do have a photo of him dressed like a girl and me dressed like a banana for Halloween.
I think I will have a snack and take a nap before I eat and go to sleep.

Vivienne Westwood for me. Though the seasons to tend to be complete hit or complete miss for me and nothing in between. Sometimes I walk into the shop in Manchester and just go WTF, and other times I run around wanting to try everything on. I have collected some really beautiful things over the years, and I've now lost enough weight to get back in all but one thing (a t shirt) so I'm very happy right now.

Time to revive this thread just in time for the holiday season! Has anyone done any fabulous shopping yet for the holiday season?

Mama and I went to Holt Renfrew here in town last weekend and she got me a Prada Luna Rossa Toiletry bag set and I got her a really nice set of Purple leather Holts gloves. We don't do surprises, we just tell each other and we get it (if the price is right of course). Mom asked about a Gucci pink change purse and nearly had a heart attack when she was told $320 for the price. Mom is more of a discounts and Wal-Mart kind of shopper, I'm a Rodeo Drive/Fifth Avenue high-end shopper.

Long story short, my idiot sister pissed me off enough I got ornaments from Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Nordstrom (all with their logos and such on said ornaments) as well as a Gucci gold-ball ornament. This is going up on my little Xmas tree at work. I'm an atheist so I tell people "I don't put the christ in Christmas, I put the commercially fabulous b*tch in Xmas!"

If nothing else I will certainly have the most commercially decorated tree at work!

Sister also pissed me off enough that I bought a Gucci shirt and am having it shipped up here for me...

Anyone hitting up the fabulous stores and shops for the holidays?

New York and the Mall at Short Hills are calling my name...

I'd love to see a picture of the tree. I'd like to tag along on one of your shopping trips just to watch!

Here I'm planning to be out of debt by end of March-Mid Aprilish too.

I had no idea the Mall at Short Hills ever existed before this thread! I was planning on doing a trip through Berlin/Prague/Vienna which for me isn't about the shopping but then I see Short Hills and Fifth Avenue and that seems to be calling my name, but Europe and all the history and architecture.

My tree I can't wait to see what it looks like!

barbk, you should have seen me on Rodeo Drive in June! $900 on Prada shoes at Barney's just off Rodeo...

What can I say? I have a penchant for high-end Italian labels.

PS - I can't decide what the best mall in the States is, enclosed mall I mean, Crystals at CityCenter in Vegas or the Mall at Short Hills? I'm leaning towards Short Hills... plus NJ just legalized marriage equality, even more incentive to visit!

I personally love Burberry. It's the only high-fashion label I'm interested in. I've only been to 2 Burberry stores in the US since I live in the middle of nowhere Louisiana. While in Detroit for Skate America, I went to the Somerset Mall, my first experience at a high end mall. Very nice Burberry but they didn't have what I wanted but the people were super nice and helpful and luckily they were able to locate my wallet at the Burberry in Dallas (Northpark Mall). I flew to Dallas that night and picked up my wallet the next day. The sales associate there were also super nice and I ended up buying a trench coat and matching scarf !!! Also got a large free bottle of their body perfume! No sales taxes on any of it since Louisiana has no Burberry (all were mailed to me that's why no sales tax )!!!

Also own a few Burberry watches, all purchased during Macy's Friends and Family sale in Memphis. I drove to Dallas, they had nothing at none of the 6 or so Macy's I went to. Then drove to Memphis where I originally saw all 4 of my watches, went staight to the Collierville outdoors mall, and apparently people there don't dig Burberry watches and thank God for that Also own a passport holder that went on clearance at Nordstrom, can't remember which Dallas mall I got that from definitely not Northpark that mall is on a whole nother level!!

Nordstrom.com is having a sale now and I will definitely buy a pair of flats and more than likely a coat. I figure why the hell not??? I have no kids, no man, and I only spend my money on school loans, savings, and rent and that's boring as hell!!!

I did pass this beautiful Louis Vuitton wallet in Northpark but I have no clue how much other high-fashion brands cost so I dared not to go inside At least with Burberry I know what prices to expect, mostly cause I religiously stalk their website !!! Hopefully when/if I move to Maryland I'll get to visit more stores/better malls!!! Only Dallas has decent shopping within reasonable driving distance of Shreveport

Burberry is definitely one label I enjoy. I find it's readily available here for me and in most large urban centres as well. I have a couple of polos of theirs and I really enjoy the colors. They're bold and they pop out really well. I bought purple Burberry at Nordstrom at the Grove in LA the day Prop 8 officially ended and same-sex couples could start marrying again as my own little celebration.

I ordered a shirt from Gucci that'll hopefully be here by this afternoon even though I haven't seen it. I leave that up to my specialist at Holts who takes good care of me. She knows my style and tastes very well. It's casual Friday for me and I've gone with a purple Holts cashmere sweater (30% off this weekend for anyone near a Holt Renfrew!) a Gucci watch, t-shirt and jeans with my hair spikey and gelled today. I actually look more professional today than I do during most of the week when we are supposed to be business casual...

Can't wait for my Xmas ornaments to get here!

Thanks, saw that yesterday, that site does not work well with my phone. Nordstrom just put more stuff on sale, some as much as 40% off, that's so not cool

ETA: Burberry purse was originally sold out, kept refreshing like hell and was finally able to place an order!!! Ordered a pair of flats that won't be here until the 1st week of December But hey no sales taxes, so I'm not complaining

Kinda funny, I grew up in New Jersey -just moved to southern NY a little under a year ago- and I've never been to the Short Hills Mall. Maybe I'll actually get myself over there one of these days, but my mom never cared for/wore high-end designers/labels -any money she could have spent on them was probably financing my skating - so I never thought much of it until recently. Over the summer I treated myself to a Coach clutch that was pretty deeply discounted, right after I found out that I was getting moved from hourly to salary at my job -my first salaried position ever- but that's all I've got so far. Anyone who saw my apartment sharing troubles thread at the end of the summer knows I can't afford sh!t but I'm slowly saving up money again

Short Hills is a high end mall. However, there is a Macy's, Gap, and other more moderate stores. I think that part of what I love about that mall is how open, brightly lit, and clean it is. No food court helps. You don't have tweens and teens hanging out on weekends or days off from school. And, Bloomingdales (in particular) has the best sales staff ever!

Cruisin, if I come to the Jersey/NYC area next year can I stay with you? No teenagers? No icky food courts either? I'm working on paying off my debt and now this malls sounds like it's going to make me need more credit cards!

No shirt yet from Holts, hopefully this week

There is a Legal Seafood, a Cheesecake Factory, Joe's American Bar & Grill, Papa Razzi (an Italian restaurant), Qdoba, Au bon Pain, and a Starbucks. All spread out, and mostly sit down restaurants. And some of the department stores have cafes.

When you come, let me know. I can certainly meet you at the mall. If you don't mind hanging around a 61 year old lady

Just his Bloomingdales for their Friends & Family. got both of these for the Holidays:

http://www1.bloomingdales.com/shop/p...%20FURSTENBERG With black tights and ankle boots. I love DVF, fits me really well and I love the '70s vibe.

http://www1.bloomingdales.com/shop/p...%3Dted%20baker Had to have it taken in in the hips. British sizing, had to go up to a 4 for the waist.

Neither one was terribly $$$, especially after the 20% discount!
