I just have to say that C/S looked really good despite a couple of mistakes (watched the video x2) - Off the bat, I noticed that Simon's posture and carriage is improved; their 3twist looks more secure than last year; their throw 4sal was landed despite the 2-footed spin-out ( I consider that a victory - 99% of most quad throws from any team in the world end up with the gal splayed on the ice); love their ambition of 2 sets of SBS triples! I hope they keep it; also love the DS right into a pairs spin!

Their size handicap obviously still effects their SBS spins, though.

That was an ambitious program and I'm impressed! Would love to see this clean. They really have improved even more this year, their lifts are fabulous. Wishing them all good luck this season!

Glad to hear Cast/Shnap are trying the 4S. I think they'll have to have it to be competitive/get any hardware from here on out. And she must have saved it (not fallen) if they didn't get -3.

Right LilJen, Marissa landed the 4S, but then 2-footed and spun-out. Not sure I agree C/S won't "get any hardware from here on out" w/o a quad throw. All the U.S. teams will have to be at the top of their games to be competitive nationally and internationally. The bar is raised, the depth is expanding and it's very exciting to see what's ahead for U.S. pairs.

ITA tapdancer, olympic and others! C/S are looking amazing this early in the season with both their programs. Obvious improvement clearly demonstrating their hard work and determination is paying off. They are the reigning U.S. National Champions and are certainly showing that they are worthy of the title and in no way ready to give it up. Cheers and best of luck, Marissa and Simon!

Davis/Brubaker's Nebelhorn Trophy assignment is confirmed officially today and both Scimeca/Knierim and Donlan/Speroff have been assigned to Nepela Trophy, Oct. 3-5 in Slovakia: http://usfigureskating.org/Athletes.asp?id=216

Fun interview with Jimmy Morgan, who is making his debut at the Senior level this season with Alexandria Shaughnessy (their music is "an Argentine tango for our short program, and "Umbrellas of Cherbourg" for our long"): http://skateguard1.blogspot.com/2013...my-morgan.html
    Excerpts:
Q: What do you enjoy most about pairs skating as opposed to singles skating? What is your favourite and least favourite element?

A: Pairs skating is so much more fun (sorry singles guys!)... but it's true. There's just something about being able to share the ice with someone that creates a contrasting dynamic that you just don't get in singles skating. My favorite elements are lifts. There's so many variations that each one can be unique. My least favorite elements are side by side spins. Getting those babies to sync up is a PAIN.
    ...
Q: What's one thing most people don't know about you?

A: I'm a full-time student at BU, and I love it! It keeps me sane. I study P.R. at the College of Communication and it has been the most rewarding experience paired with skating. I was lucky enough to land an internship with the Boston 2014 U.S. Championships Marketing Team, and have been able to combine my expertise in skating with my knowledge from school. So, if you ever see @BOS2014 tweeting, make sure to say hi. (Psssst - It's me.)

I'm quite impressed by how ambitious Castelli/Shnapir's free skate is. I thought that having easier throws than the other teams might make it harder on them (especially since teams like Denney/Coughlin and Scimeca/Knierim do throw 3Lz and 3Lo), but now they are outdoing everyone with the throw 4S. Considering how hard it is, it was great that she stood it up as well as she did. It actually looks relatively easy for her, so I imagine they will try to use it all season. Their lifts are strong, the 3 twist is looking more solid, and hopefully the 2 sets of SBS triples work for them, but if not, they have 2As as a backup plan. This team has improved so much over the years, they really are a good example of where talented teams can go if they stay committed to each other for many seasons. Their choreographer has also given them good programs, and they seem capable of handling them. Great showing for a summer competition, for sure.

Wow. I was just wondering if the USFSA would sent skaters to Ondrej Nepela. C/S went a couple of years ago, but the USFSA completely ignored it last year. Glad to see D/S have an international assignment and S/K get a competition as a warm-up for their GP season. There must be confidence and Chris's recovery.

    Thanks, Sylvia.

Wondering if D/B will get a 2nd GP assignment. I also think L/L are prime candidates for a Senior B this Fall. They are the highest scoring couple without any sort of assignment. They are getting better and deserve one!

Haven Denney/Brandon Frazier have been added to Ondrej Nepela Trophy (with Scimeca/Knierim and Donlan/Speroff) - it will be their senior international debut.

Hopefully more pairs will be assigned to Cup of Nice and Ice Challenge, like last year (Leng/LeDuc and Calalang/Sidhu are listed as alternates for Nepela with Kayne/O'Shea).

4 new Novice pairs training in California are: Jessica Lee/Robert Hennings, Ai Setoyama/David Botero, Alexandria Yao/Connor Fleming, and Juliette Erickson/Alexander Brauner (the latter 2 are listed as members of Peninsula SC for the Challenge Skate in SLC).

There's also a new Novice pair in Texas: Hilary Asher/Luke Spencer Kirchgessner.

Pairs (Senior to Juvenile) known to have competed so far this season are listed in Scoretracker: http://unseenskaters.wordpress.com/s...-pairs-scores/

Sylvia. Always look forward to your name as the last poster on any given thread because we can always depend on you to provide great bits of information!

It looks like the USFSA is really utilizing those Senior B's which was my hope. We've got a nice promising group of pairs at the moment. I'm wondering if D/F was added to Ondrej Nepela to get them out there prior to the GP series, get a good score, perhaps get them noticed for a 2nd GP slot (if one opens up).

I definitely think L/L and Calalang / Sidhu are in line for either Ice Challenge or Coupe International de Nice. L/L had quite impressive Summer results and C/S have a good world ranking (28). S/M are still getting back on their feet so not sure where they will debut if somewhere else besides Rostelecom ....

Nobody ever seems to know for sure until the Sectional rosters are published.

Click on the Pairs Scoretracker link that's posted above for an idea of which teams could be in which sections based on who has competed so far this season.

U.S. Senior pairs scheduled to compete at the Middle Atlantics club comp. in NYC tomorrow (SP is Friday afternoon) and Saturday night (FS):
Donlan, Gretchen / Speroff, Andrew The Skating Club of Boston
Leng, DeeDee DuPage FSC / LeDuc, Timothy Eastern Iowa FSC
Calalang, Jessica DuPage FSC / Sidhu, Zack Las Vegas FSC
Shaughnessy, Alexandria / Morgan, James The Skating Club of Boston

Jessica Pfund/AJ Reiss are scheduled to compete their Senior programs at Skate St. Moritz in Oakland, CA, later this month (he was injured earlier this summer and this is supposed to be their first competition of the season).

D/S are really working the local Summer comps this season and I'm also pleased L/L and C/S are getting some more action before this Fall. They are probably both gunning for a slot at either Coupe International de Nice or Ice Challenge. Will you be getting info on this competition?

Hope P/R have a great debut this season. They have a certain something if they can put it together
