Outside the box???? It is pieces of music cuts like last year and same type of program. Classical love story would have been outside the box they are using what works for them...smart of them I say go for it!!

Excerpt re. C/S' SP debut from the Quebec Summer Championships recap article: http://web.icenetwork.com/news/artic...&vkey=ice_news
"We are happy with what we put out today, but we know there are plenty of things we can improve," Castelli said. "It is still a new program."

The team plans to unveil its free skate, set to a medley of James Bond soundtracks, at the Cranberry Open this weekend. There, they may include a throw quad Salchow, a move they practice daily.

"We did not compete the long program in Boisbriand because we will do some minor work on it with Julie Marcotte in the next few days," Shnapir said.

Their first international event is the U.S. International Classic, followed by Skate America, the NHK Trophy and, of course, the 2014 U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Boston.

"We hope for a peak performance at U.S. nationals in our hometown," Shnapir said. "Our ultimate goal for this season, certainly, is the Olympics."
Senior Pairs registered for the Cranberry Open are all from Boston: Castelli/Shnapir, Donlan/Speroff, Baga/Toth, Alexandria Shaughnessy/James Morgan (SP only).

I wouldn't rule out C/S for an Olympic spot outright. Ice is slippery and they show improvement as a team even over last year, where many thought they improved. On elements, I noted their 3 twist is better. They actually get a decent level on that element now.

I wasn't comparing scores (to be honest I always take summer comp scores with a grain of salt). I was remarking on the program itself. C/S have shown much improvement and their program is difficult and full of interesting choreography. There are lots of teams in contention including C/S. My post was more in response to the idea that has been floating around that C/S will simply lie down at Nationals and other teams will easily grab the title. A lot of posters here seem to think that C/S aren't in contention with other top US pairs.

Caydee Denney/John Coughlin - updated Team USA bio: http://web.icenetwork.com/skaters/de...d=39910&mode=P
SP Music: "Tosca" by Giacomo Puccini
FS Music: Selections from The Phantom of the Opera by Andrew Lloyd Webber
Choreographers: Julie Marcotte, Christopher Dean, Dalilah Sappenfield (SP),
    Julie Marcotte, Pasquale Camerlengo (FS)

Article about their program music changes: http://web.icenetwork.com/news/artic...&vkey=ice_news

There's an update on Scimeca/Knierim at the end of the article:
Another of Sappenfield's pairs, U.S. silver medalists Alexa Scimeca and Chris Knierim, are back on the ice following an injury to Knierim. "On July 1, he fractured the bottom of his left fibula," Sappenfield said. "He had surgery, and we were told there was a four-week turnaround. He's had an incredible recovery, ahead of plan." She added the skaters are doing all of their elements except side-by-side triple jumps. "We will run the programs at Champs Camp. After that, we have the green light to start doing triples again."

I don't get the impression that it's "a lot of posters" being negative in this thread about Castelli/Shnapir. I certainly wouldn't count them out! The more competitive and determined U.S. pairs pushing each other the better!

Wonder how Camerlengo feels about having his Free Skate "improved" upon. Yes, there's always an opportunity to work on a program to further develop it and have it best fit the athletes etc. but I would think the courtesy is to stick with the original choreographer. I realize they had to balance the egos (which don't sound very big overall) of various choreographers but still, it is a professional courtesy issue I would think, to put your name on an altered version of someone else's work. Just wondering.

Felicia Zhang & Nate Bartholomay have filled the TBA at Skate America, according to USFS' press release today: http://www.usfsa.org/Story.asp?id=49428&type=media

ETA: so Bartholomay's first-ever GP will be SA instead of CoC!

Z/B deserved the TBA spot at SA by virtue of 2013 Nationals, 2013 4CC's and their summer performances at Skate Detroit.

I hope that some of other up and coming US teams get those international B's this Fall - Ice Challenge in Austria, Coupe International de Nice in France. Are there any others? It would be nice to see D/S and L/L get an international assignment. D/S look like they're fighting harder and L/L are developing nicely, and perhaps K/O and D/F could get additional assignments besides the SLC skate and NHK respectively.

BTW, have all the spots for Nebelhorn been announced? I think D/B got one slot. Does the US have any more slots?

I received a few scores from Cranberry Open Friday - Sr Pairs SP 1-3: Castelli/Shnapir 62.38, Donlan/Speroff 59.46, Shaughnessy/Morgan 45.23 (they recently passed their USFS Senior test). Don't have many details except that C/S and D/S reportedly both landed their sbs triples and throw 3S.

Loved what I saw of C/S short in Quebec so I'm happy to see them skate it well again at the Cranberry Open

Castelli/Shnapir's debut of their Skyfall/James Bond medley FS (120.84) with a throw 4S attempt: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=asJoyRa0D3s

I heard C/S were credited with 4STh -2 GOE (BV 8 scored 6) and that their 3STh + in the 2nd half scored higher (6+). Donlan/Speroff scored 88.97 in their FS.

It was far from their best outing, but despite a throw 3loop that was popped to a double & aborting the last carry lift that should have covered the entire rink, I thought there was some silver lining. Beginning of the program looked very polished for this stage of the season and Gretchen's 3toe was fully rotated. Her jumps looked good in the 6 min warm-up, actually. C/S were -worthy in person. Other than popping their SBS 3toe jumps to doubles, this didn't look like an early season-program. Already very polished and attacking everything. Also, the speed and ice coverage they get on their lifts don't always come across on tv, but it definitely sets them apart when you see them live.
