AFC & Oceania are in talks to merge and I think it is way past due. I hope this is leads to good things for New Zealand.

Expect an announcement on January 1st about David Beckham's planned MLS franchise in Miami. He is also planning to build a new stadium on the Miami Docks.

Announcement before the 1st of the year. Maybe at the MLS championship game? The proposed stadium in Port-of-Miami/Watson Island, I've never heard any part of this place or any part of the port ever referred to as "the docks", is a great big maybe. It is one of 30 locations that are being explored. I love it. It could be one of the most unique locations anywhere. The one drawback is access is provided by one bridge and a soon to be opened billion dollar tunnel. Traffic getting there and leaving will be a nightmare.

Why do I hear the Twilight Zone's theme playing in my ears?! Yet another loss for my boys and now they are ninth. So glad I wasn't able to watch.

French-Algerian footballer Zahir Belounis has been allowed to return to France from Qatar. He was forbidden to leave because of a dispute with his former club over money.

Congrats, Oleada, your team got a pretty good draw. USA was not so lucky, but there aren't any really easy groups. CONMEBOL looks like they will do well.
Group A: Brazil/Croatia/Mexico/Cameroon, Brazil/Croatia is opening match
Group B: Spain/Netherlands/Chile/Australia
Group C: Colombia/Greece/Cote d'Ivoire/Japan
Group D: Uruguay/Costa Rica/England/Italy
Group E: Switzerland/Ecuador/France/Honduras
Group F: Argentina/Bosnia/Iran/Nigeria
Group G: Germany/Portugal/USA/Ghana (will be hard for USA to win any games let alone advance)
Group H: Belgium/Algeria/Russia/SKorea

So much for my dream of the USA making it to the semis this time around.

Best case for USMNT..... Take revenge on Ghana win 3-0. Win a hard fought match with Portugal 3-2 and eek out a late draw against Germany 1-1 USAMNT wins group on goal differential
More likely 2-1 over Ghana 2-2 draw with Portugal and 0-3 loss to the Germans and who knows if that will be good enough to move on

I agree with most of yours, Buzz, but I think S American teams will step it up. Colombia for sure should advance, probably as the group winner, and Chile is coming on strong and could surprise Spain and/or Netherlands. I picked:
A: Brazil, Mexico
B: Chile, Spain (Netherlands was awful in Euro Cup, Spain looked a little played out by Confederations Cup)
C: Colombia, Japan (Ivory Coast is aging)
D: Italy, Uruguay
E: France, Ecuador
F: Argentina (duh), Nigeria
G: Germany, Portugal
H: Belgium, Russia
Final four will be Brazil v Argentina and Germany v Chile, Brazil over Germany in the final... you heard it here first.

Oh dear god not another loss!

It happened Saturday, was one of the best ever, and not a peep or a post here: Sporting Kansas City defeated Real Salt Lake to win the 18th (I think) MLS Cup. Game tied 1-1 after 90 minutes and another 30 minutes of extra time, KC won in the 10th round of PKs to win it's 2nd league championship. Well done SKC!
Team Beckham is still looking for a permanent home. It has narrowed the field of possibilities from 30 to 3. All 3 are either in downtown Miami, as MLS demands, or close enough to be acceptable. The most beguiling location is actually east of downtown on Dodge Island's Port of Miami, just about due east of The Heat's home at the AAA Arena. It is across the narrowest part of Biscayne Bay and the Intercoastal from downtown with a remarkable view of downtown. A decently designed building could give Mr Beckham's team one of the outstanding locations for a sports arena in North America, or anywhere else for all of that.
The Miami-Dade County Commissioners will be voting on this on Tuesday. It is understood that Beckham & Cohorts must pay for this themselves. There is no $$$ coming from any political entity in the State of Florida. Becks has said that the financing is already in place. All that is needed is formal political acceptance.
NJL (...please say tuned...I'm sure there is more to follow....including the Ft Lauderdale Strikers possibly getting a pretty neat new home, too......)

Phew! Man U beat Ashton Villa 3-0! But Arsenal is still in the lead with Liverpool hot on their heals.
A fifth construction worker has died while working on the stadiums for next year's tournament. The worker is described as 35 and he fell from the roof.

I am beginning to Think the USA being in the "group of death" may not be sure a bad thing. After all, to actually ever challenge for the title they will have to play and beat the big boys. The only way to truly know just how ready they are is to see if they survive group G. And believe it or not I RRREALLY want them too sooooo badly!

Brazil's Mane Garrincha National Stadium renovated for the WC 2014 has sprung a leak! It is described as Brazil's most expensive stadium.
