Massive sinkhole swallows man and his bedroom

Watching CNN and my heart is breaking for the family of this poor man, the man was sleeping in his bed when a sinkhole opened under the house collapsing the bedroom floor. Right now the area is considered too unstable to attempt any rescue.

They said on the evening news he was maybe 100 feet down. His BIL tried to get him out, but tragically couldn't find him.

I am still wondering how this happened so suddenly, and if there were any indicators earlier- whether the area was susceptible to the formation of sinkholes.

How frightening for this poor man and his family though! Such a terrible way to die! I read that 5 adults and a 2 year old escaped.

There had been some sinkholes in the area but this was totally unexpected. I heard the house had been inspected a few months ago and was declared in good condition with no evidence of sinkholes nearby.
