Lots of smaller movies out this week. The first three are going on my To See list, although the third of these three might be too sensationalist for me (the title is a hint)! Also, I recommend avoid the final two trailers like the plague. VILE!!!

I'm off to the Patrick Chan threads...where you can watch a molehill become a mountain in seconds!!!
The Silence and The Monk sounds really good, and I will try and check them out this weekend.
"Heaven has no rage like love to hatred turned / Nor hell a fury like a woman scorned."
I actually enjoyed it too. I think it's Julianne Hough's best role to date. She and Josh are very appealing in the film. However, I saw the twist about 2/3 way through the film.
The final scene was definitely a bitbut
Spoiler
damn that kid looked like Stanley Tucci.
Ok, so I screened "Oz" tonight. It's definitely a beautiful film, but it wasn't super satisfying. Mila Kunis is beautiful but her acting leaves me cold. Michelle Williams hasn't looked more beautiful.
There were some good laughs thanks to some really fun sidekicks, but I got more of an emotional reaction out of "Jack the Giant Slayer."
The Wicked Witch's flying monkeys are scary though ... and loud!

I didn't see Moulin Rouge in the theatres but of course heard/read all the rave reviews people were giving it. I finally sat down to watch it and my reaction was something akin to![]()

. Couldn't stand it -- pretentious, overwrought crap.
SSRIs keep you from reaching orgasm, and menopause keeps you from wanting one.
I watched Jack the Giant Slayer too and I agree that it wasn't bad... I also felt that it was nothing special thoughI thought the plot was somewhat predictable and the timing of some events too convenient. I also thought the princess was disappointing. When we were shown that she had wondered from the house, I thought we'll get a more interesting princess. Nope, just the same old damsel-in-distress
That last scene you said, is it the scene whereSpoiler
Jack came with the enchanted crown and then proceeded to put it on his head? I don't know if I'm the only one, but I wished it had been the princess coming through wearing that crown...
I love Ewan McGregor thoughHe stole every scene he was in and I wished he played a bigger role in the movie.
Ps: Way way way way better than Hansel and Gretel, witch hunters.
So that's a thumbs down? I am reading you right?
My friend invited me to go see this Sunday, but I said no. I've seen too many movies lately that make light of violence. That said, I am working my way through "End of Watch" and even "Chimpanzee" had chimp on monkey and chimp on chimp violence!
I haven't seen it since it first came out, but I remember loving it. As for Mercurio, he worked somewhat steadily according to imdb.com until the early 2000's and then worked steadily as a judge on Dancing With The Stars and then on "Mercurio's Menu" where he travels Australia and discovers local cuisine.

^ Ewan McGregor is the first and best reason to watch Moulin Rouge. And that's plenty for me.
Booooo to all the haters! My 11-year-old self cried for at least 3 hours when that movie finished
And yes, Ewan McGregor is always worth watching![]()
The ML DVD has been out since 2003. DVDs themselves have been on their way out in the past few years in favor of Blue-Rays, and stores are trying to get rid of their DVD inventories. You can find many good DVDs in the $5 and lower bin at Wall-Mart and other discount stores.
I agree that Ewan McGregor is so good in the film and is still very watchable in anything ...well except for those Star Wars prequels.
He was the only good thing about the Star Wars prequels. Watching the third one I just found myself feeling so bad for him, because he did a legit good job and just everything else was so, so bad (and I felt super awful for Natalie Portman, who had seriuously the worst lines in the history of cinema in the second two prequels. People say, oh, Natalie Portman couldn't act in those, and my response is, Meryl Streep could not have made those lines work.)
Ewan pretty much plays Obi Wan in "Jack the Giant Slayer," but instead of a lightsaber he uses a sword and instead of a robe he wears armor. He's super charming though.
The same can't be said for James Franco, who was really uneven in "Oz." In fact, the whole movie was uneven. Definitely worth watching in 3D though.
Abbie Cornish: Impressed because with her beauty I could see her stuck on the Rom-Com track. But she takes a different direction each time. Kudo's to her.
I bought Shawshank Redemption and the first LOTR movie in the bargain bin in my Wal*Mart in my small town (pop: 4000). Moulin Rouge was also in there (I already had that one, of course). It also had the ABC Family sequel to Mean Girls, among other things. Bargain bins are full of random things, but there are certainly some decent movies in them as long as they are old decent movies (and each of the three above are, at this point, at least a decade old).
(I didn't have the first LOTR on DVD because I had it on VHS first)
