Cute pic of Max autographing someone's tote bag:Included with the 50 young talents were amazing champions like U.S. champion Max Aaron, who last year became the first skater since my title in 2004 to qualify for the national championships through their respective sectional competitions and win the national title.
New Q&A in which which Aaron talks about his choreographers (a "way upbeat" SP by Pasquale Camerlengo, FS by Lori Nichol) and more: http://web.icenetwork.com/news/artic...&vkey=ice_news
For the long program, I really have to get my strength up. It is a four-minute, 45-second, leg-burning program. I am definitely excited to show how I can move differently. Lori found a contemporary arrangement of Carmen. It varies between a classic and modern take on Carmen. I feel it keeps people wondering what the music is until the very end, when you realize the music is Carmen.
When I came to Lori with the idea of Carmen, she wanted to make sure that we did an original spin on Carmen. Lori's choreography is truly amazing, and I love how she found a modernistic movement. I definitely wanted something known but not too overplayed. I know it's going to make me grow as a skater.Icenetwork.com: What have you got planned in terms of quads for your programs? Obviously, you made quite a statement last season with them.
Aaron: It is still early, but the plan is to have two in the short program and three in the long. I really like the triple Lutz and would like to have a quadruple Lutz, but I'm not just focusing on the jumps this time. I'm doing a lot of work with ballet and ballroom. And I just got new skates, so we'll see. My others were 2 1/2 years old.

Fingers crossed...Carmen has been over-done imo, but a fresh, new take could work. It's a long opera, so a lot of the music never gets used, so I'm hoping for magic!
Twitter: Skate for Hope references this same article as part of their PR for the upcoming show...
What new could Max possibly bring to Carmen? He is not an artistic or contemporary skater?
West side story...and now Carmen. You can't make this stuff up. I want an exclusive interview on the Manley woman podcast.
This is my reaction, too. CARMEN??? Really?? (Will it be exactly like Evan's program?)
BARK LESS. WAG MORE.
This part makes me quite curious. What version would leave one in doubt as to the source music?Lori found a contemporary arrangement of Carmen. It varies between a classic and modern take on Carmen. I feel it keeps people wondering what the music is until the very end, when you realize the music is Carmen.
There was a modern jazz take on Carmen in the late 1950s:
The late Argentinian musician Waldo De Los Rios did an arrangement of selections from Carmen for piano and orchestra (but it's less than 4 minutes):

Like I said in the music thread, there was a hip hop take on Carmen that MTV did years ago starring Beyonce called: "Carmen: A Hip Hopera".
Could be that. Clips can be found on Youtube.

.@MaxTAaron just stopped by our HQ. Looking forward to a special #TBT video of his. We'll also give out a signed photo of the champ as well.
Carmen and Lori Nichol. *sigh*
I don't really like hip-hop all that much, and pretty much hate rap. So, if it's the "hip hopera," I'm a bit leery. But at least there couldn't be any vocals.
If it's a more traditional Carmen...well, that's been done to death imo.
I'm going to just take a wait-and-see approach, not pre-judge, and see what Max and Lori create. They might surprise us...in a good way!

I actually would prefer it to be a hip-hop style Carmen than the traditional one for Max. I just think it would suit him better. I'm sure he'll pour all his energy into it.
But Lori Nichol...and Carmen...? I want to give the Carmen part a chance, but the choreographer part is making it very hard to believe this'll be good.
