Don't DO that, NadineWhite. I thought the link was to Max's program and got very excited.

Anyway, the breakdown of Max's program:

    4S-hand-3T, 3Lz, CCoSp1, 3A (++), FCSp3, StSq3, CCSp3, TES = 44.57, PCS = 36.92, TSS = 81.49

    Here's what TSL said:

Max Aaron: Showing some cleavage. 4sal hand down-3 toe. Huge 3 lutz. Total BAM 3 axel. His spins look better. Sells it before the footwork and almost trips..really difficult straight line step sequence, complete with shimmy. Much improved second mark. I want him to channel 10% of Nobu and give us some footwork face, though. Really strong debut; this will be a good program for him. 81.49. 1st.
    And Jackie Wong:

Max Aaron USA - quad salchow (hand down)-triple toe, triple lutz, triple axel, a bit of a trip right before the step sequence, but very much enjoying the new choreography tricks Aaron's picked up - TES 44.57, PCS 36.92, SP SCORE 81.49

Max Aaron, Canadian pair lead after first day of U.S. International Figure Skating Classic
Nick Zaccardi Sep 12, 2013, 11:31 PM EDT

    Excerpts:

U.S. figure skating champion Max Aaron‘s Olympic season is off to a personal-best start.

Aaron, 21, scored an 81.49 to take the lead at the U.S. International Classic in Salt Lake City on Thursday night, bettering his 78.20 from the World Championships in March, where he finished seventh overall.

Aaron’s short program highlight was a quad salchow-triple toe loop combination, though he put both his hands on the ice on the quad. Aaron also landed a clean triple axel, putting him four points ahead of second-place Stephen Carriere of the U.S. (full results below).
    Men
    1. Max Aaron (USA) 81.49
    2. Stephen Carriere (USA) 77.48

Aaron jumps out ahead of Carriere in men's short

Posted 9/12/13 by Lynn Rutherford, special to icenetwork

    Pic: http://web.icenetwork.com/assets/ima...6_um9bb7x5.JPG

    Excerpt:

He shimmied, he samba-ed, he shook. And although he didn't quite manage a perfect landing on his signature quadruple Salchow, Max Aaron was pleased with his night's work in the men's short program at the 2013 U.S. International Figure Skating Classic.

"I'm here to figure out how to compete with these new programs, what I need to do to skate them clean," the 21-year-old U.S. champion said. "I've been known as a jumper, and then there's the performance part. I have to learn how to balance the two, to really sell it and not give away my jumps."

Wednesday, Aaron did a near perfect practice run-through of his lively Latin short program, choreographed by Pasquale Camerlengo. While he could not duplicate the excitement in competition, he accomplished quite a bit.

Although he put a hand down on the quad Salchow, he still managed to tack on a triple toe. His triple Axel and triple Lutz were spot on. He stumbled a bit at the start of his samba and mambo-inspired step sequence, but still managed a lot of hip undulations and sprightly turns. All told, he earned 81.49 points, a more-than-respectable early season tally.

"I was a little lighter, a little looser in practice," Aaron said. "The Sal was a little wonky. Luckily, I've been doing it for three years and I know what to do [to land it] when it's off.

"It's one of my first scores over 80, which is great to hear. We wanted to get a score of at least 80 early on in the season, because [later on] men are going to be trying two quads in the short and everything will be higher. ... We want to keep building."

The Colorado Springs-based skater is working to add a quad toe to his short, but for now, his coach, Tom Zakrajsek, is satisfied.

"Lots of work to do, but I'm definitely pleased," he said. "He was off his center, for sure, on the footwork. That's just part of him letting go and performing more. He can do it in training, and then when you have to turn around and do it in competition, it takes experience.

"I see him getting more aggressive. In the kiss and cry, I told him, 'A year ago, if you had landed forward on the quad, you would have done a double toe.' Now he just has that confidence to follow through and do the plan."

Figure skating: With Lysacek sidelined, Max Aaron leads at U.S. Classic
He leads comfortably heading into final round, with Olympic champ Lysacek out.
By Kurt Kragthorpe | The Salt Lake Tribune
    First Published Sep 12 2013 10:09 pm • Updated 5 hours ago

    Excerpt:

Max Aaron wishes Evan Lysacek could have skated as scheduled this week, even if the Olympic champion may have made Aaron’s defense of the men’s title in the U.S. International Figure Skating Classic much more difficult.

"I’m competing against myself as always, but having Evan here would have been for me kind of a dream come true, because I always wanted to compete with Evan and have my name called along with his name," Aaron said Thursday night. "He’s been an idol for a long time."

With Evan Lysacek sidelined with an abdominal injury, reigning U.S. champion Max Aaron leads the short program with a score of 81.49 heading into Friday night’s final at the U.S. International Figure Skating Classic.

Lysacek withdrew from his intended return to skating with an abdominal injury. His absence leaves Aaron, the reigning U.S. champion, as the favorite to repeat as the winner of an event that leads into the Grand Prix schedule. Aaron’s short program score of 81.49 gave him the lead over American skater Stephen Carrier (77.48) going into Friday night’s finals at the Salt Lake City Sports Complex.

Known as a jumper, the 21-year-old Aaron is trying to improve his performance skills and become a more complete skater. "I’m here to figure out what I need to do to compete with this new program," he said, while hoping to "capture everyone’s attention."

Unsteady Aaron still hits personal best in triumph
Carriere brings home silver; Farris gets caught in music but bags bronze

Max Aaron was awarded 7.94 more total points than he did at last year's U.S. International Classic, where he was also victorious. -Jay Adeff

    Excerpt:

Max Aaron learned a valuable lesson at the 2013 U.S. International Figure Skating Classic in Salt Lake City: It's far easier to do three quads in practice than it is in competition.

The U.S. champion won his second title here in as many years, but it wasn't with the free skate he wanted. He misfired on his three biggest guns -- an opening quad toe and, to a lesser extent, two quad Salchows -- and failed to generate the excitement he craved with his Carmen free skate.

"I learned a lot about myself, learned a lot about the [quad] toe, learned how to compete with three quads," a subdued Aaron said. "The program performance-wise wasn't up to par, to be honest."

Aaron still did a lot, landing two triple Axels and four other triples, including a triple Lutz-triple Salchow sequence. While his two quad Salchows had imperfect landings, they notched significant points. All told, the free skate earned 157.72 points, and he ended with a personal-best total of 239.21.

"Max came here well trained; I think he showed that, to get 157 for the program with errors in the quad boxes," Aaron's coach, Tom Zakrajsek, said. "It shows how well trained he is, because the second half of the program was very strong.

"This week was about Max learning about himself, and it's difficult to do multiple quads in a program. Max was ready to do a little better today, and I'm glad he's learning it here so he can be better prepared for Skate America and NHK."

    Cool

I honestly didn't understand all the back/forth about his short program costume? Something about not having enough mesh etc on the back? Could somebody clarify the rules? I think the men's costumes have been the least controversial thing so was caught by surprise.

I also think he is purposefully teasing people with his hair. Look at all the conversation and twittersphere gab it is generating. Gives him a dimension to say "ladies - discuss!"
