pani, I am surprised at you embracing PJ's metaphor for the teams; all well and good to prefer V&M's choreo, but why on earth compare it to a smelly & cheesy cheese (old cheddar)? Surely she could have done something better with a wine comparison?
Maybe she didnt drink? Will you feel better if she will said V-M choreo is like good old vine and D-W like coca-cola? Joke.
I think this is not question of preference, but question of reality.
Doris, sorry, but after you did at Golden Skate form and about your and your frinds about Tessas weight, porno, small Scott, Tessa is a puppy and dont think you are the person, who could tell something to PJ in this case.

I think PJ was probably going for the mature, full flavoured body with many layers old cheddar aged to perfection versus a mass-produced product made of one or more types of cheeses that have been heated and mixed with emulsifiers, colorings, flavorings, etc., primarily to retard spoilage and enhance spreadability at reduced cost.

For me its just PJ is brave to tell something like this, when all others in Canada put D-W higher then V-M since OG.

Well yes, but most people have firm opinions about whether dark chocolate is superior to milk chocolate or the other way around. If PJ were using my analogy, then she'd probably make V/M artisanal bean-to-bar chocolate, while D/W would be a Mars bar.

I don't think it's brave for a Canadian journalist to say that Canadian skaters are better. Now, if PJ were to, say, sing the praises of a Russian team*, then I would be surprised.

    * ETA: suggesting that they are superior to a Canadian team, that is.

They prised Boborova-Soloviev all season long
Didnt they prise Volosozhar-Trankova and Savchenko-Szolkovi, Carolina Kostner, Mao Asada ect?
I cant remeber canadian journalists prise V-M over D-W. And PJ didnt made this. She just tell truth.

I love the cheese metaphor and I love cheese.... A high quality old cheddar like our Balderson's 12 year old is sharp yet mellow. Of course i dont think slices yummy at all with their additives and cheese food connotations. So her metaphor to me is true -- one is fine and the other run of the mill and low brow.

I guess the wine would work but few casual readers would know the difference between better years and better chateaux!

Well, then perhaps the cheese metaphor works better in Canada, than in the US, where when I was a girl, "Your mom eats government cheese," was a deadly insult, and refered to the bulk Kraft cheese included in welfare packages, and where still Kraft slices are not a symbol for something that is popular, but perhaps not as sophisticated as it might be, but for something that is deadly lowest trailer trash class...and where comparing any performance, to any cheese, fine cheddar or not, is an insult.

I would be fine with comparing V&M's Carmen to fine wine or fine chocolate, but I would never compare their Carmen to any kind of cheese whatsoever. It's not a cheesy program.

So that's why I wondered why V&M fans were happy to go with it, since to me the comparison insults both teams' programs.

Agreed Doris! Like many things on message boards, it often gets lost in translation. Whether it's a cultural, language, or even regional difference, it's a great learning opportunity to be exposed to something new. Just because one person doesn't like it, doesn't make it bad. Example, the North American modernization of ice dance, versus the classic, old school European style. And within North America, we have many different 'flavors' and styles...enough to suit and satisfy most any palate.

An article said that the documentary was about how Tessa and Scott deal with the pressure of training with their rivals. So it makes sense that they'd be in it.

Fwiw, she said that Berezhanaya/Sikharulidze were a better pair than Sale/Pelletier.

I remember seeing that! I was quite impressed. For a Canadian commentator and journalist, that's definitely a more original stand to take than "V/M are better than D/W".

    Also, it's true
