Patrick politiks against V-M
USA could help Russia in pairs and get bronze in ice dance, Russia could help USA get gold in ice danceAnd USA could help Japon to take gold in man singles.
OK, let me elaborate. Last year, for instance, if Tessa hadn't said that they had those minor mistakes at Worlds, no one would've written miles of web articles turning Tessa's words against herself and Scott. It also happened at the GPF, when Skate Canada allowed those comments to get out, that's on them. Scott, and any sportsman, hell, any person for that matter, can say whatever the hell they want (even if I or you disagree), but it's the publicist or, in this case, the federation who has to make sure those things do not get out. We all have our outbursts and it is not like the guy killed a puppy, he was understandbly pissed because they lost and he didn't know why. Still, that hurts your image.
I'll elaborate further. We, as part of the V-M fan base, do tend to be extremely negative (I say we because, heck, I am part of this fan base, but notice I have never ever said "OMG, THEY'RE DOOMED!"). The first people to count Virtue and Moir out are the very same people on this thread. The same people who treat them as victims of an evil system that has seen them, shock horror, win an Olympic gold and two World championships. So, my point is that maybe, just maybe, we should try to play the victim a bit less, maybe treat this team as champions instead of underdogs and say, "Hell, they can win this thing because they are freaking Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir, one of the best ever."
No, we couldnt, this is our mascot before competitionwe should try to play the victim a bit less, maybe treat this team as champions instead of underdogs and say, "Hell, they can win this thing because they are freaking Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir, one of the best ever."
Plus they didnt win any competition this season againts.... you know.
Great post, Golightly! I wholeheartedly agree.
Bingo! So, my point is that maybe, just maybe, we should try to play the victim a bit less, maybe treat this team as champions instead of underdogs and say, "Hell, they can win this thing because they are freaking Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir, one of the best ever."
Could you imaging, what other will be talking about this thread, if we will be talking - V-M are one of the best ever and nobody could compete with them?![]()
I agree with you about the first part. The second part, I admit I have been really pessissmitic this season, but I don't see how that is affecting V/M's scores at competition. Like I doubt anyone from the V/M team or judges or any other major players are reading this thread and basing their decisions on how negative (which I'm not trying to excuse BTW) we are.
I think we are negative because we are nervous and hate that what we see others dont necessarily see.
I have stayed away a bit because of this negativity. It gets me churned up ......especially when you know who fans go dot dot dot.
I had no chance to look at their OGM programs on the anniversary but maybe this weekend.
Its negativity, if i think V-M couldnt get secomnd PCS in FD for Choreo and Transitions?![]()
This is not Tumblr, it's an important figure skating forum with tradition and influence. People come here (Aunt Joyce, other broadcasters, people in the FS community) and they use what they read here to their advantage and then word spreads. That is how this works. FSU is not just some forum.
Well I don't have a tumbler account so I wouldn't exactly know how things work on there. I can believe FSU is a very influential place and I don't think what you said is incorrect, but I'm just trying to wrap my head around this. You're saying the pessimism is having an impact on how V/M are judged, right? But it's not as if people here are saying they're going to lose because they suck; a lot of us are actually confused by the scoring so far this season.
It is an interesting question. Coming off last season it seemed like if anything, it was smarter for the French and Russians to go after D&W. There was a 4.03 difference between V&M and D&W at Worlds, and a 5.44 difference between D&W and P&B.
Ever since the Olympics, it has seemed that V&M and D&W were in a league of their own, not touchable by anyone else. I thought that Shpilband's leaving might be an excuse to start marking them both down, to give others a chance to beat them before the Olympics, and D&W seemed more vulnerable since they have more of the types of flaws that can be marked down in PCS. V&M were the reigning World champs and this year's Worlds are in their hometown. So it seems like it would have been wiser for other countries looking for an in to just leave V&M alone at the top and attack D&W a bit to see if teams like P&B can get in there, because eg, if P&B are capable of beating D&W, and B&S are capable of beating P&B, and I&K are capable of beating B&S.... things get interesting.
Also at the beginning of the season Notre Dame was getting panned (although that's more by the fans, since the scores at SA were excellent) and Carmen initially got rave reviews... so it did look like V&M were going to have an easier time than D&W politically. Even Russian dance legends were basically saying Carmen is unbeatable if clean because it's so hard to have all new elements.
So yeah... what happened? V&M are struggling a little bit, but they're still well ahead of everyone except for the fluky SC SD. D&W's marks are nearly perfect. So the international judges have continued the rivalry between them and their marks are both so high that nobody is going to be able to get close. How does that benefit the other countries?
its statistically impossible to persuade people to be positive in this thread (: so we can just leave it at it. or even better, we can see it in an other way. internet is a perfect place for venting emotions knowing that a lot of people will read. but emotions are often irrational and over the top, its their nature. they are not really stated as facts and very easily the poster changes his mind the day after, i.e., has a more rational and positive thinking.the problem is that we easily post when we feel down, because after all its an inner need. if one feels good, there's no much need to tell it to everyone, unless its about a victory etc.
the point is that what is posted gains importance and it starts to look as "the main opinion" of a group, but its a wrong impression. so yea, you feel that at a certain point people panic, but its the emotion of the moment and it changes later.
so yea, more than continuated panic, i think its a normal emotional response that gets thrown here just to vent and feel better. the "better" is mostly not expressed.![]()
Well I'm going to say something similar to what I wrote in another thread.
V/M are so FREAKING awesome and a helluva GREAT team that everyone else is DEATHLY afraid of them. So to try to make them appear vulnerable, others are trying to find reasons to TEAR them down, find chinks in their "BUBBLE" and make us forget that they are the BEST thing to have happened to dance in years.
That's my vent and I'm sticking to it.Is that positive enough guys? Do I have any seconders?
