Zero Dark Thirty, to see whether or not I agree with Richard Cohen's defense of the film.

It's a close-run thing between Stanwyck and Andrews, but Ms. Stevens' grim determination and terrifying bouquet tip the balance in her favor. Never having sat through the 1951 Father of the Bride, I had no idea that Taylor's dress was quite that bad. I understand the emotional impulse--wow, the 20th century really sucks; let's pretend it never happened!--but the dress looks like a ten-year-old girl designed it.

    worse:

    a suit that's too baggy
    or
a suit that looks a little too small?

falling_dance, that thing flew off the shelves when the movie came out in 1951. No accounting for taste, eys? And Edith Head made both that one and Stanwycks...

Question 450 - too small. Too much is always better than too little I always say.

    Same question..

That Edith Head designed Taylor's gown is more grist for my 50s-hating mill.

    Same answer.

    Edith Head or Adrian?

    Edgar. And Cleopatra. And Mercutio.

    Great tragedies:

Antony and Cleopatra, Coriolanus, or King Lear?
"I have been assured by a very knowing American of my acquaintance in London, that a young healthy child well nursed, is, at a year old, a most delicious nourishing and wholesome food, whether stewed, roasted, baked, or boiled; and I make no doubt that it will equally serve in a fricasie, or a ragoust." ~ 'A Modest Proposal' ~ Jonathan Swift
