F Leonova doesn't go to Worlds, it's possible she'll be sent to WTT, and points from those competitions count. Plus it's traditional for someone to blow out their PB by 20-30 points, and Ithink it's too early to count the L!dies close to the cut-off as safe.

There's one more event that could impact the SB list: World Team Trophy.

According to the ISU announcement, the two highest-ranked singles in each country who have also placed top 10 at Worlds have to compete at WTT; for Pairs and Dance, the country can choose, if more than one meets the criteria.

Men:

• CAN: Chan (WS 1/WC 1) and Reynolds (WS 16/WC 5) should have to skate.
• USA: No man has to be chosen. Top 2 WS are Abbott (8) and Miner (15). Max Aaron is the only US man in Top 10 at WC, but he's ranked 27th in WS).
• JPN: Hanyu (WS 2/WC 4) and Takahashi (WS 3/WC 6) if JPN makes it without Pairs points.
• RUS: No man has to be chosen. Top 2 WS are Gachinski (10) and Menshov (18), with neither of them skating at WC, so no required pick. Kovtun is WS 29/WC 17.
• ITA: Bacchini is WS 46, Parkinson is 99.
• CHN: Han Yan is WS 20, Song is WS 25.
• FRA: The Top 2 WS are Amodio (9) and Joubert (13). Amodio finished 12th at WC, so he doesn't have to be chosen, but Joubert (WC 9) does, if FRA is in.

If Voronov (30) is chosen, he needs 4.4 over his SB to pass Chen for the 24th sport, and if Gachinski (10) is chosen, he needs 10.17 points over his SB; they should be the only ones with a real shot. Bacchini and Parkinson aren't close, Besseghier or Razzano would need 30+ points over his SB, and Chan, Reynolds, Yan, Song, Aaron, Miner, Dornbush, Farris, Abbott, Brown, Joubert, Amodio, Takahashi, Hanyu, Kovtun and Menshov are already Top 24.

Pairs:

• CAN: Top 2 WS: D/R (WS 3/WC 3) and M-T/M (WS 8/WC 4). Either can be sent.
• USA: Top 2 WS: C/S (WS 15/WC 13) and Denney/Frazier (WS 24). Neither must be sent. S/K are WS 32, behind V/B (WS 31), although they made Top 10 at Worlds.
• RUS: Top 2 WS: V/T (WS 1/WC 1) and B/L (WS 4/WC 7). Either of them should be chosen.
• CHN: Top 2 WS: P/T (WS 5/WC 5) and S/H (WS 11/WC 12). Theoretically, P/T should be sent, if CHN makes it in, but he should plead old knees.
• ITA: Top 2 WS: B/H (WS 6/WC 10) and D/G (WS 22/WC 14). B/H should be chosen.
• FRA: Top 2 WS: J/C (WS 12/WC 8) and P/M (WS 17). J/C should be chosen.

#24 is Vigalova/Zakroev. If China sends Yu/Jin -- not likely -- then they are just a few points off V/Z's SB score. Vise/Baldwin are a little over 10 points under V/Z's SB score, with DM/G of ITA just a bit behind V/B. The other ones who supposedly have to be chosen or are likely to be are already higher than 24 on the SB list.

So does the US men's situation mean someone like Dornbush or Farris could be sent? Jeremy is a reasonable pick provided he's healthy and wants to go, but you would think Max and Ross could maybe use a bit of a rest after having competed at Nats+4CCs+Worlds all in a row. Plus Max has 2 GPs garuanteed already for being in the top 12 at Worlds and Ross is already safely within the top 24 for SB and WS so WTT can't do much for him anyways. I suppose Rippon could be sent because he's not in the top 24 for WS or SB at this point so it could help for GP selections, but idk if he's still injured.

Also, I think Russia already unofficially confirmed that Menshov and Voronov would be going to WTT. So no Gatchinski, I believe he's working on new programs for next season already anyways and given his long offseason he's probably at a different point in his training that most others right now in which case competing with old programs could be a nuisance.

World team trophy has big prize money. Most skaters are going to want to go unless they are hurt. It will be interesting to see who US sends but if it isn't aaron-miner or aaron-Abbott I'd expect some major complaining.

So how come USFS sent Gracie last year? From the looks of it, the USFS doesn't HAVE to invite any male skater in particular and can therefore choose who to send - so it's not jipping anyone of prize money if the invites are up for grabs anyways. Plus Miner probably does not need to be competing in an another event and risk having his confidence shaken even more should he not deliver. Max I guess would make sense but wouldn't it be more valuable for skaters like Dornbush, Farris, or Brown who are on the bubble to get 2 GPs next season? I think they are all very close to making the top 24 WS as is, could WTT make a difference?

USFS usually goes by their national results for World team. They rarely make smart decisions in regards to getting skaters on GPs and such.

I suppose. And Czisny's injury probably had come out by then, or she at least was getting tested for stuff. But you would have thought next in line would be Agnes or Mirai and not Gracie, so that's more why I wonder if they might send Josh or Jason. As for GPs, it would more be, Adam was supposed to go to 4CCs which would have given him a chance to get his SB into the top 24, he didn't go, he's off the list for now and thus is not certain for even 1 GP. It would more be, if USFS wants to give SA to say Johnson, or Brown as a 2nd event (though one would think/hope he could get 2 on his own), Rippon getting a GP by virtue of a top 24 SB score would make that decision easier, whereas if he stays at home, he might not get any GP invites, and the USFS might feel the need to give SA to him in case they are strongly considering him for the Olympic team or such. Idk. I doubt they really think that far into it and one would think Rippon would be below Dornbush, Farris, Brown, and Miner on the pecking order for being asked anyways, but where Gold went last season and it was obviously not due to her having a high WS (she had only competed at 2 international comps at that point), I guess you never know.

There's still WTT however? Not sure if that's likely to make a difference, but should she stay on the list after that, she should totally compete on senior GP next season, especially now that the US has 3 spots for ladiezzz!

Hopefully not. She and Miller are ready for senior GP and should get to go if they want. However, i'll be less if they keep Wang on JGP than if they keep Jason Brown there again, especially considering Miner's effort at Worlds pales in comparison to his JW score. Let the youngins move up USFS - they really can do well....just look at the ladies event, places 6-10 all aged 16 or 17

I think top 24 means one guaranteed assignment (though this season many end up with 2), and maybe some skaters think two jgps are better than one guaranteed assignment, and they want to go to jr worlds.

But skaters who are in jgps are always at a disadvantage in terms of scoring potential, and that in turns puts them lower in the season's best list, esp with the scoring inflation we've seen this season with some events. I mean, even Leonova almost beats Wang's highest score with her subpar skate at worlds.

I hope skaters like her get to move up; if she waits to move up, by the time she does, there may be college to think about already.

Wang needs to get on the GP next season. She has great potential. I would love to see someone like that make the Olympic team now that we have that 3rd spot back. It would be great experience for her.

WTT will likely impact the SB list for at least someone, and the last senior internationals will change the WS scores for Ladies, Men, and Pairs, even if they don't impact the Top 24. Dance is set, since WTT doesn't earn WS points, and there are no senior internationals with Ice Dance left. Here are the remaining senior internationals; there are others for Juniors and below that don't qualify for WS points:

There are eight Men with a mathematical possibility of passing at least Nan Song with one (Verner, Voronov), one or two (Rippon), or two internationals (Hino, Gachinski, Uno, Rappe, Omori). More importantly for Besseghier, were two of the same men to surpass him, he'd lose a guaranteed spot, and the French Fed will likely choose between him and Ponsart for TEB, possibly his only chance to earn SB points for 2014-15. None are on the competitor's list for Coupe de Printemps for Sr. Men.

There are nine Ladies with a mathematical possibility of passing at least Elena Glebova with one (Popova, Makarova, Osmond), one or two (Imai, Miyahara), or two (Gilleron-Gorry, K. Zhang, Pogorilaya, HJ Kim). Glebova needs to keep her spot to be guaranteed a GP. None are listed for Coupe de Printemps for Sr. Ladies.

There are three Pairs with a mathematical possibility of passing at least Scimeca/Knierem with one (Simpson/Blackmer, Davankova/Deputat) or one or two (Vise/Baldwin), but none of them are listed for Coupe de Printemps for Sr. Pairs. The good news for Della Monica/Guarise, who need to be Top 24 WS to be guaranteed a spot, is that there is no possibility of passing them with a single senior internationals.
