    Captain Kirk and Commander Hatfield

Gotta love when geek pop culture feeds science, and vice versa.

William Shatner calls Chris Hadfield at the ISS

I'm also looking forward to the release of the new song tomorrow, ISS, co-written with Ed Robertson (of the Barenaked Ladies), and recorded on the space station!

I live in Sarnia and Chris has asked that everyone in our city participate in "lighting up the city". On Friday evening he plans take a photo of his hometown where our little airport is even named after him. Here's the article. The photo of the map that is included is upside down as in north in at the bottom of the photo.

BTW, Chris' last name is Hadfield not Hatfield. Any chance a mod might correct the title, please?

Shatner first connected to Hadfield via Twitter on Jan. 3, asking, "Are you tweeting from space?"

Hadfield responded, "Yes, Standard Orbit, Captain. And we're detecting signs of life on the surface."
    Wonderful!

    And here it is....

CBC Music ~ Chris Hadfield and Barenaked Ladies ~ ISS (Is Somebody Singing

Love it!! Ed and Chris did a great job on this, both writing and performing, but seeing the Earth outside of the cupola while Chris was playing? So very cool!!!

Also over at YouTube, you can hear Chris' Christmas song he wrote and recorded up there called Jewel In The Night. It's so lovely and also brought a lump to my throat hearing it.

The amount of coverage of Hadfield in space is awesome! I enjoy following it.
I'm honest, just not always in a nice way

I didn't know Captain Kirk was from Canada! (You learn something new every day.) Hadfield must love the missions if he has volunteered for the mission to Mars. Brave man...

    You beat me to it!

It would be extremely cool even if the music wasn't that good ... but it's great!

There are a couple of youtube versions up but I like this one because of the visuals:

I've been following Cmdr Hadfield on Twitter for a while now and the pictures he is sending from space are just incredible. He's an amazing man - it's wonderful the way he is sharing his experience in space with the world.

He also doesn't take himself too seriously either. I mean...The man is the Honourary Commanding Officer of the Canadian branch of Starfleet, The Intl Star Trek Fan Club.

    How cool is that!!

    That doesn't surprise me,
Many of the astronauts have credited the "Star Trek" franchise for inspiring them.
