What would be your favorite step sequences or choreographed sequences by a singles skater ??
My favorites would be
Carolina Kostner - All for the past 3 seasons
Takahiko Kozuka - 2010-2011 LP
Rachael flatt - 2010-2011 Sp
Mao Asada - 2012-2013 Sp
Akiko Suzuki - All for the past 2 seasons
Yuzuru Hanyu - 2011-2012 Lp
Patrick Chan - 2010-2011 Lp
Yagudin's race car SP. The footwork was inventive, and Alexei looked sexy as heck doing them
MK's Tosca SLF at Nationals.
Well, fresh from watching the Lambiel videos on another thread....I would say Lambiel's La Traviata and William Tell both. And of course, Alexei's Winter, MITIM and I loved the racing one too. Shows how to take a theme and work it.
I loooooooooooooove Carolina's "L'Après-midi d'un faune" spiral & step sequence, imo one of the best sequences that has been done under COP: http://youtu.be/3Gb2g0IDKSw?t=3m30s
Pre-COP: http://youtu.be/HuwrdXlFVRc?t=1m14s This impressed me because she had so much speed throughout the whole sequence and it just flowed beautifully.
I usually like all of Mao's step sequences but there was one that included lots of twizzles in all different directions (I think it might have even been an exhibition program). I can't seem to find the video but I really, really liked that one.
Stéphane's "Tell" - even though not my favorite program of his, this was an amazing step sequence and he sold it 150%: http://youtu.be/pwnqYkMRSyg?t=3m4s
Javier's drunk pirate. Maybe not the most difficult or appealing to the eye but you could see that this guy is something special: http://youtu.be/1p_NF-57EV8?t=1m39s
Patrick - he is a master of the blade and his steps are just incredible. I like how he always moves in unexpected directions: http://youtu.be/gzZWPjliHiA?t=1m57s
Daisukehttp://youtu.be/pWCYD9OC6Eg?t=2m22s and
Current step sequences look pretty much the same to me. I find it hard to get excited about them.
My favorite is pre-CoP, from my favorite Yagudin short program: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=og59QN4L_ko
Takahashi's Rachmaninoff 2 LP
B&S's Lady Caliph SP
Irina's 2006 SP
Michelle Kwan - Tosca LP
Yuka Sato- all of them
Yagudin's Gladiator, Winter, Nutrocker
Candeloro - d'Artagnan
Lambiel & Takahashi - almost anything!
Under the 6.0 system.
I honestly only remember Yagudin's footwork.
Under COP. The ones that come to mind.
Buttle - SP 2006 Olympics.
Lambiel - LP 2007 Worlds
Chan - SP 2009 Worlds
Takahashi - SP 2010 Olympics
Yuna Kim - SP 2010 Olympics
Chan - SP 2011 Worlds - he skated most of his step sequence backwards and it was amazing to see such blade control.
Asada - SP 2012-2013 season.
Kostner - LP 2012-2013 season.
Michelle Kwan's Aranjuez.

Maybe not the most difficult footwoork but so expressive!
Robin Cousins. 1980 Olympics SP to Railway Children.

wish we could've seen what she would've done with her footwork had she competed under ijs longer
Also, Yagudin's footwork was
Footwork nowadays is amazing and difficult but....a lot of times it doesn't fit with the music.
How can people not mention Kurt Browning or Scott Hamilton!
In COP. Chan. Takahashi, Mao, Kozuka, Abbot.
A lot of Barna's are tremendous. I simply looove the one from his 89 & 91 SP. Difficult yet perfectly timed to the music and executed with great speed. He was ahead of his time.
I always remember the commentators saying that Yuka Sato was ahead of her time turning in both directions and covering lots of ice pre-COP: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uaVpADchwOY
Carolina Kostner 2005 SP: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2mHrWWWdp-g
But as cheesy at it was Candeloro doing d'Artagnan with fencing was always entertaining http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aDb3fuvslfc
I have to agree. I discussed this with a friend recently, and my feeling was that current programs (and step sequences) are often better constructed than 6.0 ones, but because there are very clear requirements that one must check off to get good scores, they tend to be more similar and thus, less memorable. I mainly notice IJS step sequences because of good execution or poor execution, not for actual content, excitement or wow factor.
Say what you will for Yagudin doing level 0 and Candeloro's D'Artagnan being cheesy, those step sequences stood out and fit within the programs and the music. Covering the entire ice with every change of edge and direction known to man just doesn't have the same effect.
Though Lambiel had some pretty ones. But I got the sense that Lambiel was just being Lambiel and kind of bending the system to his will, rather than the other way around. I've also liked some of Takahashi's - NOT Swan Lake, which I always found disjointed, but in his programs last year, and La Strada had fun circular steps, IIRC.
Petr Barna's name in this thread made me think about this other step sequ. from 1992 Olympics.
A beautiful one : David Liu 1992 Olympics SP
And one of my favorite, even if I don't really like this skater, I have a big respect for this line :
Irina Slutskaya 2002 SP
