    Memorial Day May 27th

Tomorrow is Memorial Day in the US when that country remembers it's war dead. So I just want to say that I hope everyone in the US spends a few moments to say a prayer for those who paid the ultimate price serving their country. Lest we forget.

Right now I'm watching the National Memorial Day Concert on PBS...at this moment General Colin Powell is paying tribute to all veterans.

It's a great concert, as always. I usually like these much more than the Capitol Fourth concerts.

That story about the two brothers . . . oh, man.

I know...and now they just showed a film clip from a past concert with the late actor Charles Durning talking of his WWII experiences...the horror of the D-Day landing on Omaha Beach in Normandy...and now of liberating a concentration camp....

I think I'm crying more than in past Memorial Day concerts.

EDIT: If anyone missed the beginning of this concert or would like to see it again, it repeats immediately following this first showing.

Now they're playing TAPS...I'm gonna lose it....

That was such a great tribute to Durning. He did that concert for years and years and years; it was really nice that they did that for him. (And I cried again too!)

If anyone missed the concert tonight, most PBS affiliates are re-airing the concert tomorrow night, Monday 05/27; check your local listings.

    That was a beautiful moment.

This concert had so many lovely moments...You Raise Me Up, Pie Jesu, You'll Never Walk Alone...and I've always loved Aaron Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man.

I may watch this concert for a third time tomorrow night...it was that good!

First of all, thanks for starting this thread. We weren't home last night, but we always make it a point to watch this concert. We most certainly will later today.

    Memorial Day May 27th

    http://www.abmc.gov/home.php

This is the site of the American Battle Monuments Commission, who maintains our overseas American Military Cemeteries. On their homepage, there is a 5 minute video about the system of cemeteries. Then I believe you can find a video on each individual cemetery (including Henri-Chapelle where my Uncle Stanley is buried. http://www.abmc.gov/cemeteries/cemeteries/hc.php)
At mile 18, I wanted to die. At mile 22, I knew I was going to die. At mile 26, I was too tough to die. In the end, I survived my first marathon.

Thanks to all who have served, from all over the world, to grant us the freedom we have.
This concert is always so moving. It seemed especially so this year.

What a perfect tribute to Charles Durning.
I'm grateful to his family for allowing the footage from Arlington to be shared,
