I appreciate Plyushchenko's athleticism and I understand that he appeals to segment of figure skating fans and certainly to Russian fans but really. I don't know if this is serious or just away for him to keep his name in the headlines but the idea of having to go through the whole Plyushchenko thing again in four years is not something I'm looking forward too.
When watching live I like everyone to skate clean - but on television the occasional trainwreck can be fun.

I saw something about that on the news ticker on CBC news this morning! I can't believe it.. I hope they don't send him again if he's just going to withdraw partway through.

think of the medical advances that may happen in the next 4 yrs. they can build him better, stronger, faster.

Sadly I doubt it. I just hope he doesn't turn into one.

But at today's prices he will be much more than a Six-Million-Dollar Man.

I honestly don't think after what happened in Sochi the Russian federation will be behind him. I think they should put their money in the young kid. Sure he isn't consistent yet but he is young and has four years. Plus IMO he has way more natural talent and artistry then Plushenko.

I hope he's joking. If he's not joking, I hope his wife locks him up and won't let him out until he promises not to try it. They'd have to carry him around the rink on a stretcher in 2018.

I somehow think this was a joke or an offhand comment, he'll be 35, after all and his body betrayed him here. The press can take things out of context.

I just hope that he finds something else to focus on -- soon -- whether it be family, coaching, developing his shows, or some other new field.

Based on previous interviews maybe he was saying Golf in Rio. LOL! But he said this before he had to pull out and before the team.

Wow, two major errors in a sports-related article from a sports news provider.

He was not joking but he was angry at the time so I do not think this statement would count as a real thing. No way his doctor would agree to replace all his spine discs.
If he really wanted to attend his fifth Olympics, he can always be there as a coach.

..and does he really want to spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair? Pushed by his son? Just wondering. It's his life.
