    Progams to "Les Miserables"

With the movie out, there's been a resurgence in skaters using the music.

Both Jeremy Abbott and Yu-na Kim are skating to "Les Mis" this season:

    Yu-Na

    Jeremy

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gL14QJEAFxc

But my favorite programs come from skaters' past:

    Todd Eldredge

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dSjTFmNYFw4 (exciting choreography, great spins and Todd having a little fun)

    Brittany McConn

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v4Nn3EOlN_0 (monstrous 3S, underrated skater IMHO, posture not as bad as they said and good speed)

    Michelle Kwan

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fyLYSS8GtSk (a nice exhibition)

Any others? Which are your favorites? I know Yu-Na's program was discussed to death (I found it pleasant but boring). Her countrywoman Min-Jung Kwak skated to it in 2010.

Favorites: Todd's "Les Mis" medley - 1998 Nagano (and that year's Goodwill Games), Kurt & Paul's "Bring Him Home," Michelle's "On My Own" (1998 US Nationals)

Todd & Viktor P. skated to "Empty Chairs @ Empty Tables" (Todd's version is on Youtube, but it's on a private setting. If you're on Facebook, you can go to his athlete fan page and check it out - posted 9/28/11 - from a great show called "Skaters' Tribute to Broadway" (10/98 - Phila., PA). I haven't been able to find Viktor's performance of it on Youtube, sorry.

Kirsten Moore Towers & Dylan Moskovitch skated to a "Les Mis" free skate a few seasons back (2? seasons ago or 3?)..

Tiffany Scott & Philip Duhlebohn did a free skate to "Les Mis" @ 2003 Worlds

I *think* Caryn Kadavy skated to "I Dreamed a Dream." Please correct me if I'm wrong about this.

There was a thread on this topic last month.

I really like Laetitia Hubert's free skate at 1995 Worlds.

Go to any open figure skating competition and you'll hear multiple versions of cuts from "Les Mis" - so much so that I'm pretty sure many of the judges must be heartily sick of them by now.
I'd rather be thought of as absolutely ridiculous than as absolutely boring.

Who could forget Pechalat & Bourzat at the 2006 Olympics with her headband covering her eyes...

The skaters who chose it for this season are very smart... the start of the championship season coincides very nicely with the hype for the movie.

I am not looking forward to the forthcoming year. Although if it means that if it reduces the number of Phantom programs that may not be such a bad thing.

No one has mentioned Hough and Laudret's FS to Les Mis.

Perhaps it's because I have watched that program a few hundred times, but Michelle's program really stands out amongst all the Les Mis programs, intepretation wise. I love the version of On My Own she used.

The version Caroline Zhang used had such unnatural phrasing.

Michelle Kwan is my favorite skater but she skated to my most hated On My Own version. Kaho Shimada's phonetic English drove me batty.

I much prefer the Frances Rufelle's original English version used by Midori Ito http://youtu.be/wE5ojtzx8ko?t=6m8s.

Josee Chouinard also skated to On My Own but I never saw the program.

Basically, if you were a female skater in the 1990s, you skated to On My Own. It was a very unoriginal choice, the exhibition equivalent of Malaguena but unlike Malaguena, I never tired of the music.

Who is that singing in Zhang's clip? She's grating.

I agree. I loved the program, but the singer IMO was horrific. It's a credit to Michelle that she was able to distract me from the embarrassing singing.

Really? I liked that the version she used sounded tragic yet natural enough.. Most other versions sounded like the singer was trying too hard to enunciate.

Kurt actually performed multiple versions of Bring Him Home over the years, to different singers.

Back in 1990, it was an exhibition program, and it seems to me his interpretation is as the young man the song is about. I believe it's to Colm Wilkinson's version:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Fm7Qok82t8

He also performed it at CSOI in 1992 with Michael Burgess singing it live.

Then in 2000, he brought it back with Gary Morris performing it live (and then used that recording in subsequent performances), and it's a more mature interpretation, IMO, with different choreography:

Very impressive, I didn't know this version, and I love it
