Balls, Bagels & Breadsticks: Tennis 2013

    New year, new thread?

    So far:

Serena won Brisbane EASILY. Murray won it almost as easily.

Spain won Hopman Cup (with some good wins for Ivanovic and Venus too)

    Dickie Gasquet won Doha

    Li Na won Shenzhen

    Aga Radwanska won Auckland

    Tipsarevic won Chennai

Sharapova withdrew from Brisbane but is probably fine for Melbourne. Azarenka withdrew before her semi with Serena but I'm fairly sure her toe will be fine for OZ

Still no Nadal, and Tsonga is a big doubt for Melbourne.

Oh, and the big news - Dimitrov and Sharapova are supposedly an item.

    Btw, a bagel = a 6-0 set; a breadstick is a 6-1, just in case people are

    I had to post this:

    http://www.rferl.org/content/safin-t.../24756900.html

It calls to mind the Tupac lyric, "Oh, so you're a Muslim now?"

I know it's always been his heritage and his mother was active, but I swear I remember quotes from him saying he was not a religious man. I guess people appreciate religion more as they grow up.

Mostly I just posted this for the picture of him saying prayers. Still

and Milos Raonic has another embarrassing loss to someone he shouldn't... Hewitt? I mean c'mon... really?! I have a feeling 2013 is going to be something of an unmitigated disaster for him...

It seems Raonic often doesn't live up to expectations.

Can't wait for the Australian Open!

Wozniacki drew Lisicki in the 1R. I'm predicting an early loss.

Vesnina won her first WTA title, on her 8th final That makes me happy

Vesnina! Always had a soft spot for her, she has a pretty game.

Great starts for Venus and Maria (Venus lost one game - Maria none!)

Dimitrov lost but it WAS to Benneteau
