I went to Best Buy last night to decide on a HDTV (32 inches to 42 inches, with a preference for something close to 40 or 42 inches). There were many attractive options. I decided on a 40 inch Sharp which fit my space requirements and budget. I also listed my second (Sony 42 in.) and third choices (Samsung or Toshiba, depending on the price).
I have already decided that I want an LED TV, and not LCD, which are slightly less expensive, but are going out, from what I heard.
Later I looked up reviews on line. Couple of reviewers said the Sharp has great picture quality but the sound quality is horrible, and one needs to install a sound bar (which means additional cost and hassle). That worried me.
The reviews about Toshiba (40 inches) were good; the only negative was that it was a little more complicated to operate. Someone wrote that he preferred the Toshiba to a similar Samsung he had bought for a higher price, but returned because he was not satisfied with it.
The Sony 42 inches had all 5 stars, in all categories, but it's a little more expensive (as expected).
Does anyone have experience with any of these HDTVs? Besides picture quality, sound quality, and ease of operation, is there anything else should I look for (besides the price, obviously)?
I have already decided not to buy LG because my experience with one of their products (DVD/VCR recorder combo) was not good. Anyone has experience with Insignia? They seemed to have a lot of them, and they were less expensive.

I had never thought about it. I usually keep a bright light on, about 10 feet on the left, but never directly behind or near the TV. I will need to read more about the plasma TVs energy consumption and other aspects for comparison.
