I thought this was funny at first too, but then my brother explained it to me. To play in the Spengler Cup you have to be:
- playing regularly in Europe (which is why some of the NHLers are in it this year)
- if a player's regular team has a team in the tournament they must play for them (this is why Thorton etc, had to play for Davos)
- the players on Team Canada were all playing in Europe, but their specific teams were not in the tournament, hence they can play for Canada
I hope that makes sense? It is pretty funny though
