Patrick Chan stepped forward to the counter at Tim Horton's . "Large with one sugar," he requested, with the uneasy sense that he was being watched. Over in the corner sat a scowling, painfully pale white-haired man stirring his small tea, a much younger blonde woman sipping a medium latte, and a tall, tanned, dark-haired, large-nosed young man, who was opening a bottle of water.

Patrick narrowed his closely-spaced eyes and approached the trio. "What brings you three to my Tim Horton's?

However, the beginning conversation was interrupted by the waiter, serving Patrick an X-large coffee with sugar in it despite having delivered cash for only a large one. Nevermind, Patrick thought, I surely deserved the X-large one for being an extraordinary gifted customer to Horton's.

Now let's get the & by the ubbers get started.

"Too strong for you, Patrick?" asked Evan Lysacek, raising his water bottle over Patrick's cup to offer some cooling dilution.

"Don't take that! It's so fake," Johnny Weir called from where he was passing out of the place with his latte, increasing his saunter since he knew that everyone in the place would almost certainly pay attention to him(he was right, too).

At least they *were* paying attention to the divine Johnny, until SHE walked through the door. Of course, you all know I mean ...

Krylova. Tiffed and elegant, she commanded attention. Camerlengo bought her a coffee. The rest of the DSC Dance coaches filtered in, talking and gesturing loudly. It worked perfectly to distract all attention.

Patrick felt himself shoved into the hall leading to the restrooms. He felt a moment of panic, until he recognized Elladj and Jeremy. "What" he said. He'd been skating with them since his move to Detroit, and right now, they seemed a safer bet that Evan and Johnny. He let himself be pulled along , out a side door and into a car. Georgia Glastris was driving, and Kaitlyn and Andrew were in the back next to him. He was safe. The car sped off.

"Find out what you can" Elladi whispered to Jeremy.

The sad task of keeping Patrick safe had fallen to Elladj and Jeremy. Elladj , because he was trying to win favor with the Canadian Fed. Patrick would likely retire after 2014, and Elladj wanted to be ready to move to the top. Jeremy answered to a higher power, Tess. Jeremy had known Tess forever- he owed her for coming to his rescue with costumes in 2010. If she wanted Patrick, well he'd do his best to watch over him. Elladj could handle himself in any situation. He positioned himself outside and waited.

Jeremy crept back into Tim Horton's, grabbing a cup out of the waste bin. He sat at a table by the restroom hall, trying to look invisible. If there was one thing he was good at, it was looking invisible next to Evan and Johnny.

"Damn!" said Frank Carroll without parting his tight, thin lips. "We've got to find out what his new programs are."

"If you don't," warned Evan, "I'm gonna go take from Johnson and Shipstad."

"Remember the Ice Follies, Frank?" murmured Lori Nichol, dreamily blowing on her latte.

"What're Ice Fallies?" sneered Evan. "Those things Patrick did quite a few of in his long? Frank, I really think it'd piss Patrick off more if both Denis and I steal his programs for Sochi. Don't you think?"

Frank, tight-lipped as ever muttered "we're stealing them ONLY for Denis. Evan, the world has passed you by. Quadless wins are a thing of the past. Denis is the future. MY future."

Evan turned to look at Frank in disbelief. How could the man who had been his coach for so long say such things about him? How had that little nobody by the name of Ten usurped his place in Frank's affections? What could Evan do to regain Frank's love and admiration? Was it really all about THE QUAD?

Patrick who had come in from the hall just a moment before and heard the conversation ( he has sharp ears) said " Of course its about the QUADS - my quads. Didnt you see how good they have become in 2013 worlds. (Now if only my 3A can get the same height and landings, he thought but didnt say it aloud). My quads combined with some killer Choreo from Camerlongo should get me the gold." Lori was downcast her latte turned sour, she knew that this time her generic choreo wouldnt do the trick. They would have to find a fly on the wall in DSC.

Lori took a sip of her cold latte, while thinking that a fly on the wall would certainly come in handy, but such things only existed in bad science fiction movies. She'd have to come up with another plan. But what? If only it wasn't so noisy in Timmy's, she could think of a new strategy. Damn, what was that annoying, whiny noise? It could not be Johnny, could it? But no, Johnny had walked out and Lori caught a brief glimpse of him stepping into a limousine. He was probably off to a photoshoot for jockstraps or something, she figured.
Damn, that whining was SO annoying. Where was it coming from?
Lori's eyes went to the wall behind her, where she saw....but no, it couldn't be, could it?
It was. It was a fly on the wall. It had an enormous head and seemed to be saying something. Lori leaned in closer to make out the words.
"Help meeeeeeeeeee, pleeeeeeease help meeeeeee!" it moaned.
Lori clutched the wall for support, sure that she was hallucinating. But she was not. It was a fly on the wall, all right. A fly with a human head. A head that belonged to............

Daisuke.
The daifly continued" Lori, I wanted you to do my program last year but it was not to be and I made a mess of the preolympic year with Morosov's choreography. So help me Lori, puhleeez....."

With manly strength, Evan reached across Lori's chest and smashed the fly. Things were not going so well with Vera, and it wouldn't be a bad idea to start making an impression on another older woman... especially after the trash-talking he had just heard from Frank.

But Lori, instead of giving Evan a smile of helpless gratitude, was staring at the tiny pile of wires, batteries, and bobblehead that had fallen to the table. "That's no fly!" she uttered. "That's a bug!"

Across the room, they heard The Voice before they saw The Tie. "It's the Russian judges," it said. Dick Button was back.

"Plushenko has had secret special surgery," revealed Uncle Dickie, causing Uncle Frank to pout and fold his arms across his chest. "They have installed new Aludium Pew-35 Quad Modulator artificial knees and hips into Evgeni. He is now training 4a-4t, 4r-4r, 4t-4t-4t, and 4s-4fl. Next month he is getting a new pair of magnetic ankles to help overcome the flutz, and a magnetic Kostnerizing jersey skating shirt that will transform his line and carriage. The Russian judges were all abuzz about it at the Worlds gala. I was that fly, on the wall behind the vodka bar, and I heard it all."

"However," Uncle Dickie continued. "His choreography remains pedestrian and Mishin also has his hands full with..."

"...Gachinski's new automaton chip. They've developed it specially so that he has no emotions except for whatever is pre-programmed for his skating."

Uncle Frank gasped.

"But I thought I had the patent for the automated bro-bot!"

"As if!" scoffed Evan. "You guys are losers. I'm going to catch the next flight to Boston. Curran Oi is about to graduate from MIT with a double degree in physics and nuclear engineering* and I'll bet he can keep any magnetic, automated, or Russian things from even getting close to making the final flight in Sochi!"

* This is true, folks! Curran, congratulations!

Meanwhile, in the car which was speeding off, Patrick was congratulating himself for having a split personality which allowed him to be in Timmy,s while sitting with Kaitlyn and Andrew. This new element, introduced by Jeff for use in the last WCh, was proving invaluable.

But Patrick now wished he had used it at worlds. He considered Jeff a figure skating equivalent of Q ( in Bond movies). Jeff gave him all these special elements which Patrick being a good (and decent) young man didnt resort to and stuck to the ISU elements. How he wished now that he had used his alter ego in the Free. Maybe all the curses and criticism would have been less.

Hindsight is 20/20 he will just have to use them at the Olys. Taking a word out of Carolina's ex program shush...... the enemies may hear.

Patrick sped onward over the Ambassador Bridge to Detroit.

Not realizing the bridge was frozen over with ice, Patrick's vehicle began to swerve and sway ...

It spun out and Patrick's car crashed into the side of the bridge. Passing motorists jumped from their van and rushed to his assistance. "Don't worry Patrick. We will save you. We are ISU judges and we always have your back".
