I would recommend skaters stay away from the AFI top 50 actually. I mean I have always felt the whole point of Film OST is that they offer something more contemporary, new, never heard before to describe something entirely different from the classic masterworks of last centuries. It would be nice if we can discover new music through skating, instead of seeing skating fulfilling our vision of what popular well known pieces of music we expect already. I remember I bought the Red Violin OST entirely on the strength of Michelle Kwan's performance, the intrigue, the mystery, the emotion. Not seen the movie until a year later. It would be nice if skating programs and performances can do that.
I have compiled a list of films scores ALL asian skaters should stay away, probably will add more later. They have became big cliches and entirely uncreative.
1. Memoir of A Geisha (Just no more please!!! ARGHH....)
2. Dragons Bruce Lee Story (>..need to wipe Elvis chopping hand from memory)
3. Mulan (over used.. but at least it is better than MoAG)
4. The last Emperor (I like the movie, but sorry this belong to Chen Lu only!)
Other Asian film OST I'd recommend for skating
1. Heaven and Earth ('93 Kitaro)
2. House of Flying dagger (Shigeru Umebayashi.)
3. In the mood for love (Shigeru Umebayashi actually anything by him is worth investigating and under rated e.g Daisy, 2046, Fearless, Curse of the Golden flower etc.)
4. Last of the Samurai (Hans Zimmer... Maybe Oda can use it to boost him, I read he is a descendent of Samurai Nobu)
5. Kungfu Panda (Love Julia L's 2010 super cute version .... think there could be more of it. Where's Misha Ge? Or Florent!)
I decide to leave out anything by Joe Hisashi, think people should not mess his stuff after Kozuka's last version kind of ruined my sentimental fav: Nausicaä - Valley of the Wind. (Unless your name Daisuke or Hanyu, everyone else stay away!!

)
