I really appreciate the fact that Meryl and Charlie have so much respect for nationals. I always at skaters who say they're just a practice session for the bigger competitions.

Thank you for sharing that blog. It really captured the feeling in the arena Saturday afternoon. I truly thought that their performance was magical. (but then I am just a bit biased!!!) So glad that others appreciate Meryl and Charlie.

It will be a sad day when D/W call it quits. I can just imagine the ovation they will get when they skate their last program at Nationals.

OMG I can't even.... I was a mess in Spokane when Tanith and Ben took their bows, and next year.... I don't want to think about how emotional that will be.

In fact, have they ever told they they were going to retire after Sochi? I understand, that's more than possible, but still...

I'd rather not think about that right now and enjoy the present
    I love this picture...

Meryl looks like a she just came to life from some medieval tale. It is very amusing that she lost, Best Hair " the Charlie White" award, to Ashley I'm not sure if Charlie's hair should even be mentioned because it shouldn't be in contention. After all, the award is named after him.

Meryl is just unreal. I refuse to believe she's human.

Therefore I think it's blasphemous for anyone to win better hair than Meryl (or Charlie). They are always #1 for hairscaping.

    From Tarasova's interview in GSD:

EV: From what you've seen in the Europeans what did you like the most?
TAT: For the first time in a long time I liked the whole team. I liked both our dance pairs skating clean, even though I had my doubts about several levels. It just happened that I was sitting right behind the technical specialists during the skates and I saw what Gordon-Poltorak was rewatching. She payed attention exactly on the elements I would too. Hence my doubts had grounds.
I think the dancers programmes should be more diverse and more `dancy'. And there should be more new elements. Just like the Canadians and the Americans do. Can you recall any original lifts the Russians do? I can't. Bobrova/Soloviev do a beautiful lift through the whole rink, but it's not new. I want to see something that will leave me breathless.

EV: In other words, you were not impressed with the Russian ice dancers' programmes?
TAT: Look at the protocols. Take our skaters and see: without making any major mistakes they got 169.25 and 169.14. Davis/White in Grand Prix Final got 183.39, Virtue/Moir - 179.83. And the Canadias made quite obvious mistakes.
Davis/White impress me with their elements all the time. Or lets take Virtue/Moir's dance. You might not like their interpretation of `Carmen', though I personally like the choreography. There are things I would choreograph differently, for example in the most dramatic musical piece they do a circular step seq. I'd put something more expressive there. But if they improve their programme what will happen? They will beat our pairs by 30 points rather than 20?
That's what we should be thinking about. And work in a way that we'd shock the viewers every time those pairs go on the ice. And use all the available resources. Otherwise there is no competition worth mentioning.
Nice words for both V&M and D&W

Wow regarding Tarasova's comments: I always thought her federation might jump on her for anything they would think of as criticism of Russian skaters. I like her candor.

I can understand how some skaters feel that way. Especially when they come from countries where there is no one at all near their level. They are the main event, there are no idols to be seen or young up and comers to inspire. It would be more like skating a show than a competition and I can see how that would feel more distracting and obligatory, than something to look forward to.

I kind of feel like Tarasova's interview validated my liking of Carmen. While I hate the music of Carmen and I really wished that had picked different music in that genre, it's not offensive to me as it is to some people. I really like the new ending I saw at Canadian Nationals, the old ending was too awkward for them. I only wish they change that lift, it's in their Jack and Diane ex if you know which one I mean, where she is horizontal and her hand is on his skate. It's not sleek-sharp or sexy, it just doesn't fit. The middle loses my attention a bit, the way that Davis and White's used to before it was re-worked, and the spin is still sloppy, but I love the last music piece.

That hug Charlie gave Chock/Bates was so adorable, because it's so sincere.
