    RIP Sir Patrick Moore

Just heard the very sad news that Sir Patrick Moore has passed away. RIP

Hosted The Sky at Night for over 55 years - the longest running programme with the same presenter in TV history. He was also one of the very few people to have actually met Orville Wright (the first airman), Yuri Gagarin (the first spaceman), and Neil Armstrong (the first man on the moon).

Very sad to hear this. While never into astronomy myself, I always enjoyed his TV appearances. He was truly an English gentleman in the very best sense. RIP Sir Patrick

I have the 1968 revision of his book, Amateur Astronomy. I was my bible when I was heavy into it. RIP, Sir Patrick.

A highly intelligent man and a brilliant astronomer, but well known here for his anti-feminist, anti-homosexual and quasi-racist views. I'm not sorry to see him go.
