I decided to take a look at the arrivals, to see the dresses and the tiaras. As was pointed out when Crown Princess Victoria got married, a royal wedding is rather like a 5-year old's birthday party: everyone's a princess! Anyway - how come no tiara on Charlene? It's a white tie event, shouldn't she be wearing one? And such a drab color for her dress, too.

The Danish princesses looked great, Princess Estelle is adorably serious as always, and I liked Victoria wearing the late Princess Lillian's tiara (at least, I think that's what she was wearing?). CP needs to shave.

maddie looks lovely. with wedding dresses, i'm in the less is more category. totally looking at you, 99% of all girls on say yes to the dress.

maybe charlene has no tiara so she can make a run for it without anyone chasing after the family jewels

Of course Charlene has a tiara. More than one.

Princess Madeleine looks lovely, but I have to say that liked Princess Victoria's wedding dress better - Speaking of less is more... of course, when you have to pull off the cameo tiara, your dress can't be too ornamented

Awww, Princess Estelle playing with her mother's jewels. So cute.

Oh, now it seems obvious Though I'd pick a more low profile event for it, if I were her.

The first part of the sentence refers to Mary and Marie (though I'm not so sure about Mary's dress anymore), the second part to the Swedish royals; in addition to the mentions of Estelle and Victoria, Carl-Philip is clearly neither Danish nor a princess

I've been in the Swedish Palace, and the wedding takes place in the cathedral that is attached to a larger hall (that's not very attractive). I haven't been in the cathedral, but even if it has AC, a large number of people in the rather warm weather...

Love that the Swedes tend to marry commoners. And Madeleine marrying an American leaves hope for Canadian me and Prince Carl Phillip (if he ever dumps the glamour model...)

Also, read a hilarious commentary of the wedding at Dlisted
People says that Princess Madeleine wore a dress by H&M, catering was provided by the Ikea cafeteria, the wedding cake was made by The Swedish Chef from from The Muppet Show and an ABBA cover band performed at the reception. No, none of that is fact. The truth is she wore a dress by Valentino and guests sucked Swedish Fish off of Alexander Skarsgard's naked body.

I agree. He reminds me of someone and not in a good way... some actor who portrayed a bad guy, can't remember which one though. And judging from the wedding pictures, Madeleine seems head-over-heels whereas he seems almost indifferent though that could very well be nervousness. I know I'd be nervous marrying into a royal family and Daniel still doesn't seem quite at ease on many pictures. But he, Viktoria and Estelle are an adorable family! Wishing Madeleine that she'll have the same!

On a side note - does anyone know if it's custom in Sweden to enter the church with your husband and not with your father? I know that Viktoria was given away by her father, I noticed Madeleine is not.

If you look at the videos, he was visibly nervous and looked like he was trying to hold back tears when Princess Madeleine walked down the aisle (see here) and they were lovely together during and after the ceremony. I don't think he photographs well, however.

AFAIK, it is not customary in Sweden for the father to give his daughter away, and there was some sort of compromise version in both weddings (the king walked them down the aisle but not all the way to the altar).

Where did you get that impression from balletmaus? Just curious because the King most certainly walked Madeleine up the aisle and when they got to the the final row of pews/stalls, is when he handed her to Chris and they walked the rest of the way to the Altar together. So did happen.

I was just looking over my predictions from last night...A wee bit eerie just *how* accurate those were, huh? I think the only thing I was wrong on, other than hoping Charlene would finally look like the Princess Consort she is, was Madeleine wearing the Cameo Tiara.

Sophie looked *stunning*. In fact, one of the best of her appearances at a White Tie Royal Wedding IMO and that Five Aquamarine Tiara is a beauty. Also suits her beautifully too. I think she's my best dressed outside of the Host Royal Family as a matter of fact.

Speaking of Best Dressed....Hello Crown Princess Victoria!! Not only did my prediction of her wearing her late Aunt's Tiara come true, but she also wore Lilian's favourite necklace. Combine the jewels, the dress, the hair and her two most important accessories, Daniel and Estelle, and to quote my Dad, "WOWZA!!"

That brings us to the Bride and I don't know...Maybe I was expecting too much because it's Valentino, but...It's a dress that I like and it's w/out a doubt a "Madeleine dress", but at the same time....Yeah. Love the top/bodice, that's just gorgeous, and the skirt's not too bad either, but then....Then....Why, oh why, is that stupid ruffle hem that belongs more on a little girl's dress than an grown up woman's there? It's not just that it spoils the line of the skirt in a way, but...I can't really put my finger on it, but...Yeah.

I mean, she looked stunning and beaming happy, and as I said it's definitely a Maddie dress, but...Yeah. I think it was the person who owns and runs the Order of Splendour blog who said while it's a beautiful dress and she looked stunning in it, it's also one that might not really be that memorable in the future when it comes to Royal Wedding gowns. That's a bit how I feel too.

What she did w/the Modern Fringe Tiara however, that will be memorable and I *loved*!! My only quibble about her using the Modern Fringe was that about, I'd say, 1/4 inch gap between the base of the frame and the actual tiara. True, that can be hid by a bit of a pouf w/some the hair at the front, but I don't recall Maddie ever wearing it that way either. So when I saw that row of what I now know to be Orange Blossoms "hiding" that gap...Brilliant!! It also showed just much better that Tiara would look if that particular problem w/it was fixed somehow in the future.

On to the Groom...After watching Chris both during the Ceremony and the Procession through the streets, I now think a big part of the problem is he just doesn't photograph that well. I mean...He won me over when he nearly burst into tears when he saw HM and Madeleine for the first time and there were several times during the Ceremony when his emotions nearly overcame him. They really do look so happy and the looks between them truly did look and come across to me as genuine. In the Official Pictures, what you can see of them (So far, the only ones I've seen are over at the SRF's Official Website and teeny tiny in size), Chris comes across the same way he has in every photograph we've seen of him.

I think w/him, it's just like w/certain skaters. Some you see on TV and just don't get the fuss. Then you see them live and realize they just don't "translate" well over TV and you're wowed by them. At least that's what I *hope* is going on, but after watching the coverage, I have a feeling it just very well may be that.

I did get to see it live on SVT and God Bless the Swedes for having afternoon their time Weddings. It was soooo nice when I used the Time Difference calculator site and realized 5pm Stockholm time was 10 am Northeastern Ontario time and meant this wasn't the typical have to get yourself up in the wee small hours of the morning to watch European Royal Wedding. However, it has been a very long and busy day here nonetheless, as our Minister's retiring later this month and tonight the Community held a Potluck and Celebration for him at the Township Hall. I'm running on fumes here, but I did want to pop in here and post a few thoughts before I go and hit my bed. Literally.

It was a lovely Wedding and I wish Madeleine and Chris all the best in their new life together!!

Loved Madeleine's dress except for that ruffle. Princess Victoria was the standout for me, with Princess Marie of Denmark second. The groom looked nervous and as mentioned above had to contain emotions several times. During the vows it seemed like he put a little extra emphasis on promising to be faithful (I could be reading too much into it but given her first fiance, I liked the way he said that). And Princess Estelle was the other standout .. too cute .. crawling from lap to lap during the ceremony, crying for mom during the reading. Love the fun that babies can bring to formal occasions.
