It sounds like they have known for about a month and she is probably around 7-8 weeks along. I don't think they know the gender. Even if they did, I doubt they would be dropping subtle hints via their own clothing. Plus you have to figure that what she had on was brought to the hospital for her to wear home and likely not meticulously planned.
The press has just gone batty. I saw a slide show of "how Kate hid her bump" online yesterday. It included photos of her from as long ago as last March. She isn't showing now. Let alone was she showing early last spring when she was not pregnant.
Then there are all the other commenters around the web. Some people around the royal discussions on FB and forums romanticize her and William's relationship so much it crosses the line to nauseating. I just read an absolutely serious discussion of how he surely wanted to carry her out of the hospital but his mean grandma's no PDA rules forced him to let her walk. And he is also going to personally beat up any paparazzi who bother her. Because that is the personality William has shown to the public for his whole life, an overly emotional dramatic guy who carries around women who are perfectly capable of walking and gets in fist fights. And never mind the totally Victorian patriarchal implications of all of that. Poor fragile little Kate, entering her confinement don't you know, certainly can't walk.
Speculation is that she is approx 8 weeks pregnant - which would explain why they wanted to wait until Christmas to tell family!! I thought that it wasn't usually possible to tell the gender of an unborn baby until around the 20 weeks mark so I would guess that the colour of their outfits is just what they wanted to wear - nothing else
Glad she is home and I hope relaxing - she looked very pale and tierd as she left but I guess that is what throwing up all day for the past 3-4 days will do to you![]()
I think a lot of these women are constructing a lot of fairy tale fantasies around this couple. It makes me wonder what their own lives and relationships are like. I'm guessing they are either unhappily single or their relationships are not very fulfilling. All these crazy fantasies of William being Prince Charming and Kate some cross between Snow White, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty distract them from that. One of them never uses Kate's name, she refers to her as "William's duchess" or "William's beautiful duchess". Which creeps the egalitarian in me out probably more than it should.
Or between ice dancers![]()
I don't even know what I wore Friday. I am, in fact, not even sure what I did Friday. And I have horrible eyes. See a retinal specialist every six months to assure I'm not going blind yet horrible. I just spend too much time reading the "What Kate Wore" blog (which has a companion FB page I now call "What Kate did Wrong" as that is the majority of its contributors' thoughts).

I hope the nurse is fired, and the hospital is reprimanded. I assume the Royals have a separate section, floor, suite, or whatever. Surely there are safeguards in place. Although there has always been such a gentleman's agreement in place between the British press and the Royal Family, they may have just been naive.
DH - and that's just my opinion
Can you tell that from a blood test?Medicine advances constantly!
The headlines here have been creepy. For example 'When they saw the haircut, every woman knew'. I'm a woman. I didn't know! Or the story about how she's more likely to have a girl because she's thin so probably consumes less calories than most, and 55% of the third of women who eat the fewest calories have girls. Also, William's a pilot and pilots are slightly more likely have girls.
I know the latter at least is a true fact, but...does it matter? They'll have a baby, barring any complications, and since they've been forced to announce early I imagine they're terrified of something going wrong and the whole world knowing about it.
One day your life will flash before your eyes. Make sure it's worth watching.
Cause 55% is SUCH an overwhelming majority.
Though honestly, male embryos are a little more fragile that female embryos, so if the mother's body is under stress, a female embryo is more likely to withstand it and survive. At the same time, male embryos are more likely to be conceived in the first place, because sperm carrying just a Y chromosome (which is like, nothing) weighs a little less than the sperm carrying an X chromosome. So they swim faster and reach the egg sooner. The fragility of male embryos ensures that the male/female population ratio remains about 50/50.
But to postulate that ALL skinny women will have girls is rather silly.![]()
You can find out from a blood test but not all doctors do it. I guess some hormone or whatever is secreted in the mother's blood if you are carrying a boy. They can test for it. If that's there, boy. If not, girl. It's fairly accurate. I've heard it's called the Jack & Jill test. You can also have a CVS or amnio which I believe will tell you the gender before the usual 20 week scan. We found out we were probably having a boy at about 17 weeks; he liked to hide and we could never get a good shot! But then at another scan at like, 30 weeks when I had to go to the hospital for something, they told me I was having a girl.![]()
