Injury status reports & updates, 2012/13 season

I've edited this post re. injured Grand Prix skaters from an earlier thread to try and keep track of their current condition/status this season, if and where publicly known, in one place.

Pairs:
Injuries (5): Dube/Wolfe, Kemp/King, Takahashi/Tran, Yankowskas/Reagan, Vartmann/van Cleave, two spots each.
Bone Condition (1): Sui/Han, two spots
Post-GP injury: Montalbano
Total: 7 teams

Ladies:
Injuries (5): Silete and K. Zhang [unconfirmed], two spots each; Shelepen and Czisny (last season's injury), one spot each, and Geng, WD at event
Total: 5

Dance:
Injuries (1): Tobias/Stagniunas, one spot

Men:
Injuries (4): Weir, two spots (one WD at event); Lysacek, Ponsart, and Dmitriev, one spot each.

Jorik Hendrickx was diagnosed after his TEB withdrawal with a broken ankle and Danielle Montalbano suffered a broken leg bone (fibula) in practice earlier this month (and reportedly has undergone surgery): http://www.flutzingaround.com/2012/1...ontalbano.html

Rumor has it on Chinese message boards that SUI Wenjing is back on ice after removing the cast. A different poster reported that HAN Cong said SUI has almost recovered... If it's true, I hope they take it easy and are not pressured to compete prematurely this season.

Posted October 17th in the German news thread:

Mari Vartmann reports on Facebook that she broke her partner's (Aaron van Cleave) cheekbone while they practiced a triple twist. Therefore they will be unable to compete at Coupe de Nice and Cup of Russia, but hope to be back for NHK Trophy [later WD from NHK as well].

According to a USFS press release dated November 9th, Caitlin Yankowskas/Joshua Reagan "were forced to withdraw from both of their Grand Prix assignments, Cup of China and NHK Trophy, after Reagan sustained a rib injury in practice last month."

[Romain] Ponsart has withdrawn from all competitions until the start of December with a torn ligament in his ankle; he's hoping to be back for French Nationals at the earliest.

Kemp/King are listed to compete at British Nationals this week.

After having withdrawn from the Cup of China, Artur Dmitriev is competing in the Russian Cup V in Moscow this week (currently 2nd after SP with a score of 71.45).

Thanks, sammyf. IIRC, it was an injury to Stacey Kemp's knee that kept them from competing at Skate America and Canada this fall.

Lipnitskaia has withdrawn from the Grand Prix Final, as posted in the Russian news thread earlier today:

According to an article on the Federation website, on Wednesday in practice Julia fell on the entry into a spin, hit her chin and suffered a light concussion. The doctors advised her not to compete.

Thanks, sammyf. IIRC, it was an injury to Stacey Kemp's knee that kept them from competing at Skate America and Canada this fall.

I forgot to include another injury withdrawal from the Grand Prix - Daisuke Murakami's shoulder injury at NHK Trophy that resulted in him not being able to finish his SP. Hopefully he will be recovered in time for Nationals later this month.

vartmann/van cleave are scheduled to skate at golden spin in zagreb and at german nationals in mid-december.
so it seems like he is back on ice and kind of ready for competition.

The latest article I found had him talking about a 2-months rehab and trying to get back for Worlds, since Europeans was very tight (in terms of scheduling).

It 's been confirmed that Gabriela KUBOVA / Dmitry KISELEV (CZE) split sometime after their 8th place finish at Ondrej Nepela Memorial in Sept., reportedly due, in part, to his health issues (Kubova is now skating with Matej Novak). Relevant excerpt from the CZE/SVK/POL Nationals thread in Kiss and Cry:

Dima Kiselev was unfortunately facing a lot of health issues which meant he would need surgery soon... It wasn´t easy decision for Gabi but since Dima´s "future" was sure thing only till Nationals and he surely would need surgery soon, they get into decision to let Dima heal sooner. The doctors are not optimistic about his competition future, thus he would like to start coaching and studying and is also applying for Czech citizenship in which case Gabi´s family is really helpfull. So the end of the partnership wasn´t that rude and they are still friends and close together (Dima and Gabi) as far as I know.

It looks like it may be the case of the last one standing whom wins. Slow & steady is the way to go.

Evgeni's smart to pick & choose his competitions, save his body for the most important one of all, the Olympics. Of course he earned this privilege, the rest have yet to prove themselves, thus leading to injury...

I really, really hope that rumor is inaccurate.

But if so, best not to rush the recovery. Thank goodness there's still 3 months till London though it'd pretty much have to be about qualifying three spots for Canada in Sochi rather than aiming for the podium.

This past week, Golden Spin of Zagreb was the first competition of the season for Isabella TOBIAS / Deividas STAGNIUNAS (LTU) and they placed 4th overall, 3rd in FD.

Simone [of Alessandrini/Vaturi] broke his scaphoid bone (it's at the base of the thumb), so they won't be at nationals. I guess they won't be able to qualify for the European Championships as well.
