I feel like Naomi Watts is consistently under-appreciated, though, as an actress. I mean, she's an A-lister, but she hasn't won half the awards I would have expected her to at this point.

I really like Naomi Watts. She should have received a few Oscar nominations by now. I hope she will, this time. I have not seen the movie yet, so I can't say whether she should win, but she is a very good actress.

She's only received one. I always forget she wasn't nominated for Mulholland Drive, which blows my mind.

There are a bunch of movies opening in the next few weeks that I want to see; Gangster Squad, A Haunted House, The Last Stand, Zero Dark Thirty, Broken City, Hansel and Gretel, and Mama. But of course I can only see one for now so I choose Gangster Squad. Gotta luv young Mr. gosling!

Not my taste, but I can see it appealing to the young crowds who go to the movies more often than me.

Academy Award nominations come out Thursday morning, announced by Seth MacFarlane and Emma Stone. Adele is supposed to be present to sing "Skyfall". This was mentioned on the radio this morning and they said that when Craig heard Adele's "Skyfall", it made him cry (he thought it was so beautiful). They also said that Craig wants Adele to be on all future Bond soundtracks. The radio DJ's were saying that this is good news for fans of Craig as Bond as I believe they said that he had signed up to do three Bond films, and if he's thinking about future films, one can assume that he plans to be in them. Myself, I'll take Craig any way I can get him!

Four smaller movies out this week, the first two I want to see. A couple of notes about Struck By Lightning: it was written (solely) by Colfer and it stars the amazing Rebel Wilson who has a line at the end of the trailer that is delivered so brilliantly. God, I love her!!

January 11 Struck by Lightning (Comedy drama with Chris Colfer, Rebel Wilson, Allison Janney, Dermet Mulroney and Christina Hendricks)

January 11 Storage 24 (Sci-fi horror, new cast including Colin O'Donoghue from Once Upon A Time)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xiWZmFEiug

January 11 Fairhaven (Comedy drama with Sarah Paulson and Chris Messina)

January 10 Officer Down (Crime drama with Stephen Dorff, Dominic Purcell, David Boreanaz, James Woods and Walton Goggins)

I don't think Adele will be singing at the Oscar nominations at 5:30-ish a.m. It's usually a short affair, reading the top nominations then handing out a list of the full nominees to the press. I'm sure they've invited her to sing at the Oscars in anticipation her song will get a nomination though.

Disappointed with Hooper's nomination over the much more deserving Russell. Direction was the weak point of Les Mis imo.

Very surprised that Hooper got in. Hope Russell manages to get in for the Oscars.

Tarantino should have gotten in over Hooper as well. Watching Les Miserables and Django one day apart clearly shows who is the better director. I think the tv directors who make up a large chunk of the DGA like Hooper because he started out as a television director and like seeing one of their own make it. Let's hope the Academy has better taste, but who knows. They did give Hooper the Oscar over Fincher two years ago.

Here's a nice interview with Gus Van Sant, Ang Lee, Quentin Tarantino, Tom Hooper, Ben Affleck, and David O. Russell a few weeks ago.

    http://bcove.me/x2e9e3b2

The interviewer is a tool, but it's nice to see directors get together and talk. Ang Lee hardly gets a word in, but when he does, the other directors just listen. I think it's obvious the amount of respect Lee has among his peers.

The video reminds me of a Newsweek interview a few years ago when Steven Spielberg, Ang Lee, Paul Haggis, Bennett Miller, and George Clooney (the five nominated directors in 2005).

Directors Speilberg and Hooper both dissed by the BAFTA's despite the fact that "Lincoln" led nominations (10) and "Les Miz" tied with "Life of Pi" for the second most nominations (9).

Tarantino, Affleck, Bigelow, Lee and Michael Haneke ("Amour") got the director nods.

    Complete list of BAFTA nominees:

It looks like Tarantino took Spielberg's spot when Lincoln getting a Best Picture nod but not best Director and the converse happening to Django. Haneke took the open spot it as Bigelow, Affleck, Spielberg, and Lee seem to be near-locks (despite Spielberg getting ignored by BAFTA) for Best Director with the fifth slot up for grabs.

I think the "Twilight" films have been consistently been nominated for the Razzies. (I heard such dismal things about the books that I have never seen any of the films though.)
