Plushy did a 4-3-2 in practice

    http://sochi2014.rsport.ru/sochi2014...721821600.html
Plushenko became the first skater to have fulfilled cascade "4-3-2", it was in 1999.

On Saturday morning training Plushenko also performed all the basic elements of the jump, including a cascade triple axel - triple toe loop, at the end he skated his long program layout.

He really doesn't need two quads for this... why Plushy why? Just skate clean!

He is a legend in Russia and I'm glad he skated so well in the short and was ok in the long. He deserved the standing ovation and cheering that was given for all his years and accomplishments for Russia. That was a great moment for him. there is nothing like doiing well on home soil.

He doubled a couple of jumps late in the program. That worries me. He said he felt pain in the back but plans to skate the individual event. I hope he does. In the meantime congrats on the Team OGM Plushy! You were a big part of this.

    Four Olympic medals.

This was my dream - to see him come back and lead his teammates to the gold medal. I almost don't want him to do the individual because this is the storybook ending. This makes up for the suckiness of Vancouver. Well not really but it is great.

For those that don't get NBCSN, there were some nice moments:

-Tara & Johnny said in practice Plushy went up to Jason Brown and told him he likes his skating. Jason shrieked and was like - NO, I love YOUR skating! Jason and Yuzuru both watched Plush at the Olympics as children and are very inspired by him.

-Andrea Joyce interviewed Plush and he said he was happy he did the quad and two axels. She asked what he thought about his doubters who didn't believe he would be here, and he smiled and said "Thank you very much! I love them!"

-They reported he has been joking about staying for 2018.

-There was a segment about Maria Sharapova at Russia house. She said he is a huge star in Russia. They showed her watching his SP and when he just made the axel, she was all "he didn't put his foot down, right!?" She's a true skating fan! And gave him a standing O at the end.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2014/02/10/sp...e-skating.html

“Many skaters are good, but Evgeni has charisma,” said Alexei Mishin, his longtime coach. “He radiates power. He radiates a sense of beauty. He radiates something what spectacles need. The majority loves him, the minority jealous.”

Plushenko’s achievement is made more impressive by his perseverance through repeated injuries. He said he needed a dozen operations to repair the pounding his body had sustained with jarring landings on ice.

Though he skated safely and cautiously on Sunday, Plushenko can still land effortless quadruple jumps and feathery triple axels despite having screws in his back from surgery. He said he felt pain in his spine Sunday, though, which raises questions about whether he will compete this week in the individual men’s competition.

His body does everything but clink, as if he were leaving a dinner party with all the silverware hidden in his overcoat. But he was upbeat Sunday night, saying, “It feels great. I would like more medals.”

Even if Sunday were his final Olympic performance, Plushenko has secured his reputation as one of the sport’s greats.

“It’s absolutely amazing the longevity he’s had,” said Kevin Reynolds of Canada, who finished second in the men’s long program. “He’s been doing quads since the age of 14. To do what he’s done at that age is absolutely incredible.”

The BBC commentators I was listening to seemed to think the doubles instead of triples were due to a momentary loss of concentration rather than a physical problem, tiredness etc. They mentioned he seemed tense at the beginning but also said that he seemed strong and didn't think he lost power in the second half of the LP. Great Plushy! you've gone down in history.

If it's true, I love that fact that he complimented Jason brown. I think he'll be there on Thursday.

Kudos to Plushy and what he has does in his Sochi journey, however it turns out. Gotta respect the guy for daring to compete with 18 year olds, my goodness. I've never been a fan of his skating but he's truly, one of a kind!

Great accomplishment and skating 3/5 layout which I think was responsible for doubles along with some back pain. I got skeptical and posted a joke road ends sign but he's so superior to what he did at Russian nationals fs! Maybe trying for second quad was too much that day.

When Plushenko won his first world medal (bronze in 1998), Julia Lipnitskaya wasn't even born. Hanyu and Jason Brown were 3 year olds, and probably not even skating yet (or may have just started skating as toddlers). This speaks volumes about not only his longevity, but his strong determination to continue to compete. Bravo Zhenya! You are a part of figure skating history.
