So I was looking at who made the calls for Cup Of Russia this weekend for ice dance and it was Sergei Ponomarenko. I was wondering what he and Marina Klimova were up to these days and I know a lot of my favourite skaters have had children. I also know that many of them skate. I found this link to Marina and Sergei's son, Anthony. He recently won Novice Gold. If he is half as talented as his parents, he has a very bright future in ice dance. His parents are part of the reason why I love ice dance so much.

It's going to be hard to avoid the pressure of expectations. For their ages, this team is really good. I watched the Icenetwork video from this event and their competitors looked a lot bigger and a lot older. They also had noticeably more ease and fluidity on their ice than the others. (And not just him. I don't know where they found Feng, but she's a pistol.) I think they did a smart thing in taking them to train on the same ice with Olympic caliber skaters, so they can see how much work they still have to do.

WOW! I am bowled over! They are both wonderful. K&P were also one of my favorite ice dancing teams of all time. Glad that their superior skating genes did not skip a generation. And I love this program (I assume Marina or Sergei choreographed it). Age-appropriate but challenging at the same time. I can't wait to see how they develop. Anthony already has the makings of a heart throb (PSOTY 2022?)
