I just saw the scores and I'm so sad cuz I was so sure they were going to win this comp finally and now I'm so sure they wouldn't. Also the judges don't seem to appreciate Carmen (they'll prob give them a 105 if they skate clean tomorrow). That also makes me sad cuz I love that program so so much...sigh.

So defeatist. God, deja vu! I said this very same thing last season too I think they can win. They are stubborn and they will keep working. I know they can win.

Maybe later in the season, but this one is lost. 1.93 points would be nothing in singles or pairs, but here, it might as well be 20.

Didn't mean to sound defeatist especially since I've been trying to be more optomistic in general. Anyways wishing them luck in the free tomorrow, it's such an amazing program.

No doubt I'm reading too much into it but I thought Tessa looked a little lost and deflated in the KnC once the scores had come up. I feel bad for them. All I was hoping was that they'd stay close to D/W in the SD. 1.93 really isn't that close, not in this competition. I'm just going to try to enjoy their skate tomorrow and remember that they never, ever... ever win the GPF. Doesn't mean they won't win the one that's important! Hey, we're V/M fans - we're used to this!

Unfortunately, I agree. An almost 2 point difference will be hard to make up. However, I think coming from behind is better for Virtue and Moir. I suspect that they will win the free but not by enough to win the whole thing. And they have made changes. And Scott had an issue on the twizzles. So...I do think D and W have the better SD although I still like V and M but theirs needs more time. I haven't seen the protocols but them getting less for Skating skills is not right IMO. Choreo/interpretation is fine. Transitions seem to be a wash for me.
I am kinda more shocked that B and S are ahead of C and L.
Anyway. if they lose it will light a fire under them for Worlds. They will need to win 4CC though. If they don't with two clean programs against two clean form D and W then I will start worrying. It is sad though because there is no way I think Carmen is beatable this year skated clean.

It seems to me that the judges are rewarding speed, Speed, SPEED. It bothered me in previous years and with other "speedy" couples and it still bothers me a great deal today. I think it's one of the main reasons the D/W are ahead let alone with with feels like a huge lead. I just don't get it, and I doubt I ever will.

I am so incredibly fed up with ice dance right now. I love V/M and P/B and will stick it out with them, but I feel like once they're done, I should be done with the discipline. I'll just follow pairs and singles.

same here. even though i dont like d/w as much as i do v/m, i feel d/w will also retire after sochi. there's no one to watch out for (maybe w/p but even them is a stretch) in ice dance once the current top three retire. i might just as well follow pairs.

Why are all of you so defeatist? Yes I was very sad - it will be hard to make up but Carmen can do it
Do you remember how we felt after Mahler GPF?
It doesnt mean that they will not win Worlds - it doesnt mean they wont win Olys.
And EVEN if they dont - we are VM fans so hold your heads high... We have had three extra years after Vancouver just a gift to us and now another year or so. And Carmen and the Latin FD.....
We are SO lucky.

There are a few teams I could see myself following, but given how things are judged these days, I just probably need to stop after this quad when it comes to ice dance.

Onward and upward people, onward and upward. All this doom and gloom happened last year at GPF, V&M got caught up in it all and got distracted. Yet they are the reigning world champions, don't forget that and trust in their talent

I thought I would stop following ice dance a few years ago, but then I fell in love with V&M.
12-07-2012, 08:54 PM
I thought the same after 2002. I love ice dance the most because it's features (or should) the qualities I find most beautiful and amazing in figure skating and I find just as one group retires there is someone else to come along ready to hook me again.

There are some beautiful dance couples in JGPF .. looking forward to seeing them develop too.

And if I&K ever get it together they could be amazing!!
For now I'm going to try my best to enjoy the 1.5 years I have left with V&M and P&B.

Ice dance is my favourite discipline as well, and has been ever since I was a teenager and had no clue about technique (hated Klimova because I thought she seemed haughty - I was 12, therefore silly. Now I adore K&P, of course). So I'll probably never stop watching it, but I can also understand aka_gerbil's frustration. The speed obsession doesn't apply to figure skating alone, it affects other sports - like gymnastics, or completely different areas, such as classical music. Playing a violin concerto fast enough and loud enough sells more records than a more subtle/nuanced interpretation. Does that sound familiar?
So true. Can't wait to watch Carmen again tomorrow!

OMG it's one competition people. The same thing happened last year throughout the season for V&M and who won worlds? These are two great teams .. I'm loving the rilvary. I'm more then sure that V&M will go home and fix whatever needs fixing (likely more practice and some tweeks) but I can hardly wait to see Carmen. These are two great teams and they are bringing out the best in each other.
