The oriental plane is the English language name of one of my favourite trees.

Not OP's fault, PeterG. the agriculturist/scientist/?? who named this tree ORIENTAL PLANE, and OP's poor taste for liking this tree.

Tonia had a legitimate shot at making the '98 Olympic team, last time she competed at Nationals. And she went to Worlds that same season, finishing 6th. The only similarity I see is that you probably never enjoyed seeing either one of them sticking around. Which, you know, is how retirement should be determined. Will have them give you a call before signing up for any future events.

I get the feeling it was probably the ones around her age (Yoshie and Shizuka) she didn't get along with. But I do remember reading that she scolded a young Miki for not paying attention on practice ice when Fumie was rising up the ranks and Miki was a kid. Which reminds me, wasn't it Fumie who was accused of intentionally "impeding" Yuna during practice sessions? Man, who would have thought after all these years that Fumie Suguri will provide so much
Fumie didn't get along with anyone but her sister. I think I remember reading Shizuka or Miki's blog a long time ago that they always included Fumie to going out for dinners and stuff(they were all practicing at the same rink at one point) but Fumie never wanted to join in.

While it's true she didn't get along with them, we wouldn't know what prevented her from wanting to join in.

Maybe she's a Scientologist? Or an Illuminati? And only socialises with HER OWN KIND.

I meant it could have been external as well as internal. She got along fine with the American skaters, at least on surface. She had spent her childhood years in Anchorage Alaska and her spoken English was pretty good, so I guess it helped her there. When moved to Japan she might have had some difficulty in being fully adjusted into the circle, where compliance with group behavior is the encouraged norm, relatively speaking. It would have been not entirely by her choice or her lack of sociability, but there could have also been some social or emotional barrier set by her peers which would not be readily visible or felt by the outsiders. It’s my guess.

those are good observations, lowtherlore. it's easy to judge a person, especially from the outside, instead of looking at our own flaws (:

That's very interesting, thanks. I didn't realise. Having been brought up in a different country puts you in this strange position where you feel and consider yourself to be Japanese (or whatever other nationality), yet when you move there after years of living somewhere else, you are different and don't really fit in. I know somebody who has experienced this clash.

I just saw a post below on her Twitter account.

    Arrived Munich,waiting Adam

I do not think her English is good at all.
Good English speakers wouldn't make such silly mistakes like this.
