Mashed potatoes and clear soup with soup almonds, and in terms of sweets, dark chocolate and milky.

But I've been working on losing weight and one of the things I've tried to do is to avoid thinking of food in emotional terms (comfort, reward) and focus on what tastes good and feels right. Luckily I think a lot of vegetables taste good

A grilled cheese sandwich with homemade tomato soup. Can't seem to have one without the other.

Gotta be macaroni and cheese for me - I grew up on it and still love it, whether it's from a box or from scratch.

If hubby's having a lousy day or the drive home from work is cold and wet and nasty, the best remedy is tuna casserole. Tried gourmet from scratch versions, but in the end, it's that can of Campbell's cream of celery that wins every time.

On rare occasions when I'm really sick, I revert to childhood - honey and butter on toasted white Wonder, tea with loads of milk and sugar.

    Sushi and sour candies.

Fave birthday ever for me was when my close friend/ co-worker brought in sushi/sashimi and sour patch kids last year for our night shift together. It was great!

I also love hot chocolate with whipped cream. When I just want some me time, I make some and curl up under a blanket witty a book ( well tablet now) and read while sipping hot chocolate

Comfort food to me, by definition, means food from childhood; stuff that makes me think of my mother and grandmother.

    To wit:

chicken soup and matzoh balls the way Gramma made them - toothsome and stick-to-your-ribs, none of that airy melt-in-your-mouth nonsense
    tuna noodle casserole
    stuffed peppers
    meatloaf
potatoes and rutabagas mashed together half and half

comfort food from school lunches: American chop suey (a New England staple)

invalid comfort food: egg custard or tapioca pudding

dessert: graham cracker crust pie filled with chocolate pudding and topped with acres of fresh whipped cream (no, Reddi-Whip from a can DOES NOT count)

    drink: root beer float

complete meal comfort food: Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings

snacks: I don't really think of snack food as comfort food, but if I had to pick one it would be popcorn

Me too, bar none, no two ways about it. My second is mashed potatoes.

Vodka. Oh, wait...that's not a food. Turkey, chicken, cookies, basically anything that I can bake that makes the entire house smell yummy.

That's like the time my friend proved that chocolate is a vegetable.

I did not argue with his conclusion.

Chips and Salsa (or is that a comfort snack?)

As far as something more substantial goes, I would say mashed potatos with chicken gravy and big, tender, chuncks of chicken - topped off with a fresh, warm yeast roll.

Another vote for homemade mac and cheese. I use 2 cheeses and evaporated milk.

    Crockpot chicken and noodles.

Homemade chicken orzo soup. Lots of carrots.

Apple cake - I make it a lot in the fall. Another fall dessert favorite is cherry crisp topped with vanilla ice cream.

And my favorite - muffins. There's something awesome about a little foil cup that's perfect for breakfast or dessert. My current favorite is a cranberry orange one (I baked a pre hurricane batch of them), but I make a decent blueberry one too. Still looking for the perfect chocolate chip muffin recipe...

And my drink of choice - Hot chocolate with a shot of Baileys.

My husband's crockpot beef stew, and I'm not even much of a red meat person, but it is so good, and so simple.
Also, my husband's grilled salmon. (he cooks, I clean up, its a great arrangement!)
And dark swiss chocolate, or Droste (Dutch) bittersweet chocolate medallions.
