I've just read it too, I was waiting for more sources to confirm it, as Rolling Stone was the only one reporting it.
If so, rock just lost one of its biggest legends.

So sad to hear this. I have so much affection for Lou Reed.

R&R Animal might be my favorite...both versions, Velvet Underground and solo.

Wow, not sure why this one hits home more than some of the other losses we've had lately.

RIP and thanks for the music, Lou.

I heard about through the BBC, so sadly...

What a loss to the music world. Can you imagine the jam session going on up there right now?

RIP Lou and thank you for the music.

Another one of the incredible icons of rock has now taken his last walk on the wild side. He will be missed, but his music (solo and with the Velvet Underground) will live on.

KEXP was in mourning all afternoon - just about every third song was Lou Reed or VU, and then half the other songs were covers of Lou Reed/VU. At one point I swear the DJ had been crying.

Very sad, a true legend has passed

Classic footage: Lou Reed f*cking with interviewers. A classic. For years, I insisted on wearing sunglasses in doors and drinking with two straws so I could be as cool as Lou Reed.

I heard an interview yesterday on Fresh Air where is old friend/publicist was talking about how good it was to see Lou get happier later in life, and I've often talked about what a huge impression it was on me the two times I've seen him live. The first time was sometime mid-'70's or so at the Bottom Line in NY. He was fantastic, but he was also wasted, strung out, and stumbling around the stage, but musically, great. The second time was mid-80's or so at the Mann in Philly. He was fantastic again, but this time, robust, seemed happy, healthy, and so appreciative of the audience and into it. It made me so happy to see him that way.

They played Perfect Day toward the end of the Fresh Air interview. I was in the car.

Johnny Walker just lost its best customer. Will you take over?

Born Lewis Allan Reed to a Jewish family in Brooklyn, Lou Reed was once asked by a journalist if he was Jewish, replying, “Of course, aren’t all the best people?”

    RIP Lou Reed.
