Sylvia, Thanks for the link to the protocols, but The pairs free skate protocol isn't there. The ladies protocol was mistakenly loaded as Pairs as well as correctly Ladies.

feel kinda sorry for s/h, though p/z were better this season; hope china will get its 3 spots back as soon as possible. 3 great senior pairs next season plus 1 junior moving up to seniors.

Does China have 2 spots for ladies? I thought they only had one

That hasn't stopped them from naming extras before...

But I believe China does have 2 this time.

Awww...I am bummed for Sui & Han. I mean, Peng & Zhang have been the clear #2s this season, but I really enjoy Sui & Han's long program. I still want to know what music is in that aside from the 'Kalinka' parts, the rest is from Krylova & Ovsiannikov's 1996 fd which is still one of my favorites. This is such a difficult program, I hope they keep it a second season and have success with it

Thank you so much for using skaters names. I go blank when I see x/y and p/u and f/o. And I love Sui and Han but when I see s/h, for the life of me I have no idea who the poster is talking about!

No, China has two ladies spots, Zijun Li placed top 10 at Worlds last year which guarantees two spots. The second spot is TBA because Li's status is still a question mark (she's injured and ill).

Doris was joking because several years ago China sent three pairs teams to Jr. Worlds even though only two were allowed...and all three still managed to compete.

There are two spots - Zijun Li was 7th at last worlds.

I'm not sure whether they are hoping Li will recover in time for the Olympics. With her, China has an outside chance for a medal in the team event (though that means all the non-dance competitors have to skate lights out).

Zhao and Guo are age-eligible and have the ISU minimums for the Olympics, if Li doesn't recover in time.

Perhaps P&T will finally retire after Sochi?

Will the Chinese Fed let them, or will they be expected to help get those three spots for next season?

I have been watching Pang & Tong since the 1999-2000 season's GP (may be even earlier?). It's insane if they compete past Sochi, unless they really want to. They seem to be in good physical shape still.

I think Sui/Han and Peng/Zhang would get 3 spots anyway.

That's a little risky, even without S/S and V/T. Both Canadian teams, possibly Kavaguti/Smirnov, with Bazarova/Larionov and it looks like Stolbova/Klimov, and Berton/Hotarek should be formidable competition, and depending on which Sui/Han show up, it's possible an American team could be competitive with them, although that's more of a long-shot.

On the other hand, if they were to place 5-9 or 6-8, for example, and earned two spots, P/T won't be around next season to take one of them. It would be a shame for the other teams, though, and since Yu/Jin's listed coach is Hongbo Zhao, I'm sure Team Yao Bin would want that third spot.

Yes, that's what I meant, and I'm still amazed that they pulled it off

I wonder whether they will have P&T doing both the team programs, considering the individual pairs' short program is so close to team LP? At their age, that's asking a lot.

If they are capable of doing all 4 Sochi events, more power to them! They should stay for Worlds. In fact, they have a reasonable chance to regain their World title if S&S and V&T retire or simply choose not to do Worlds.
