How very sad. I must say it is so wonderful that so many comments come from all over the world from people from all walks of life (okay, we all love figure skating). What a wonderful accomplishment not only to have won an Olympic gold medal, but to have won the hearts of millions. Then to retain that respect for decades after through grace, humility and giving back. What a wonderful woman she was. R.I.P.

My thoughts and prayers to her family and friends. What a legend, and in the phrase of Dick Button, the sport truly became better because she was in it.

Here is a brief article on the Barbara Ann Scott doll created to commemorate her Olympic victory in 1948:http://www.museumofvancouver.ca/coll...ann-scott-doll

What terribly sad news to wake up to. RIP Barbara Ann Scott. What a legend she was and what a legacy she leaves. A sad day for the sport, and for Canada who have lost a true sporting icon.

Ahhh, she was a true Canadian icon, and introduce many a little girl into the sport she loved. I remember seeing her perform when I was 4 or 5 yrs old, and desperately wanting "fancy" skates after that. Rest in Peace lovely lady!!!

Barbara Ann was a skating legend but she was also a truly lovely and gracious lady. When she returned to Ottawa in August for the opening of the Barbara Ann Scott Gallery at City Hall she took time to chat with people, pose for pictures, and sign autographs as she had always done. I was fortunate to chat with her briefly at a small tea held at her "beloved Minto" (Skating Club) then and she seemed the same as every other time I had met her. She made a lovely speech at the tea and ended it with something like "see you next time". Who could have dreamed that she would be gone so soon! RIP

    RIP

This is the same video attached to the CBC article above from the CBC archives ... it's a great video that sums up her life up to the broadcast date of 1964.

(may be only viewable in Canada - I'm not sure)
