Oh, a true icon of the sport has left us. RIP, Ms. Scott. My condolences to her family and friends.
Oh dear goodness that's such a tragedy. She really was the kindest, sweetest woman you could ever want to meet and the sport is so much better off for having her as an ambassador. She will be greatly missed.

Very sad news. My very first pair of skates were endorsed by her, had her name ingraved on the blade. I remember my mother explaining to me who she was. This would have been around 1962 or so.
Rest in peace Ms. Scott.
And thank you.
Terrible news. So sad. A legend of the sport. RIP

Here is an article on her passing from the Ottawa Citizen. It reads:-
Legendary Ottawa figure skater Barbara Ann Scott, who won a gold medal at the 1948 Winter Olympics and won the hearts of Canadians, died Sunday evening in San Fernandina, Florida. She last came to Ottawa in August to open a gallery at City Hall showing off artifacts from her storied career. She made the trip in considerable pain after surgery for pancreatic and abdominal problems in March. She was 82.
Every time I saw her at a Canadian skating event, she was the epitome of class and grace. Her passing is a great loss to Canada and skating.
RIP

Rest in peace* what a beautiful person she was.
A true legend. Canadian Champion, North American Champion, European Champion, World Champion, Olympic Champion, and the first woman to perform the 2Lz in international competition ... Then 20 years later she was recognized as an accomplished equestrian. She made good use of her time![]()

I am in the K&C at the 1980 Olympics telling Frank Carroll he will have a male skater from KAZ with a 4T, 3A-3T and a World Silver going into the 2014 Olympics ...
A true loss - she was an incredibly gracious and lovely woman. A wonderful representative for her country and her sport and a legend in skating.
