Oh dear goodness that's such a tragedy. She really was the kindest, sweetest woman you could ever want to meet and the sport is so much better off for having her as an ambassador. She will be greatly missed.

Very sad news. My very first pair of skates were endorsed by her, had her name ingraved on the blade. I remember my mother explaining to me who she was. This would have been around 1962 or so.

    Rest in peace Ms. Scott.

    And thank you.

Here is an article on her passing from the Ottawa Citizen. It reads:-

Legendary Ottawa figure skater Barbara Ann Scott, who won a gold medal at the 1948 Winter Olympics and won the hearts of Canadians, died Sunday evening in San Fernandina, Florida. She last came to Ottawa in August to open a gallery at City Hall showing off artifacts from her storied career. She made the trip in considerable pain after surgery for pancreatic and abdominal problems in March. She was 82.

Every time I saw her at a Canadian skating event, she was the epitome of class and grace. Her passing is a great loss to Canada and skating.

I was hoping you were wrong and had misheard but then I read the article above. A lot of heavy hearts in the skating world tonight.

I never saw her skate live and I'm the poorer for that.

A true legend. Canadian Champion, North American Champion, European Champion, World Champion, Olympic Champion, and the first woman to perform the 2Lz in international competition ... Then 20 years later she was recognized as an accomplished equestrian. She made good use of her time

A true loss - she was an incredibly gracious and lovely woman. A wonderful representative for her country and her sport and a legend in skating.
