I love Kaetlyn's confidence. She's just so much fun to watch.

I hope she recovers completely from her injuries and gets programs for next year.

We definitely need a good title for the new thread, but I can't think of anything.

Howzabout Kaetlyn Osmond: The Face of Ladies Skating, The Face Of Joy? It is one characteristic I noticed about her, she always draws the viewer into her joy when she skates.

"Last year, she won the national championship at age 17, leapfrogging several skaters who were older, more experienced and seemingly primed for an Olympic bid. At that point, Skate Canada officials began talking to her seriously about Sochi."

This was a quote from the Globe and Mail during the Olympics. I'm curious what other Canadian ladies "primed" for the Olympics they are thinking of. There really was nobody primed so to speak. Skate Canada feeds the press some big stuff.

I think TheIronLady is saying that her form could be tighter in the air, giving her faster rotations, which I sort of agree. Her jumps are big, but also quite wild, and the rotations quite slow. I think having a tighter air position would make the jumps easier to land, improving her consistency. I definitely don't think she should lose 10 pounds though.

10 pounds is quite a considerable amount of weight with her height. And it's these comments that perpetuate the weight problem in women's sports. If you look at the height of her jumps, I do not think she is overweight. Unbelievable!

How about something simple like Kaetlyn Osmond - working toward PyeongChang?

Kaetlyn is fine with Ravi IMHO. She's done very well this year, all things considered, and is still making good progress. There are some definite advatages to staying where she is: 1.) Ravi is a technical specialist, which is a huge plus 2.) she has the opportunity to practice at WEM a couple of times a week 3.) most importantly, she's really happy. That counts for a lot in my books. Ravi also doesn't seem to balk at getting her what she needs, as evidenced by the time spent with Frank Carrol over the summer. As far as the weight issue goes, her strength to weight ratio looks perfect to me. She's a bit broader across the shoulders than most female skaters, and this will result in her having larger rotations in her jumps. Losing weight isn't going to change her bone structure.

The men in singles today watch their weight extremely closely, so I don't know why discussing weight is a problem just for women's sports.

You may be right about her bone structure. She certainly is the most beautiful, but I'm pretty sure her jumps would be a lot easier if she slimmed. Everyone gets so worked up on here like this is about body image. It's just one of the things these athletes have to watch to compete.

Kaetlyn is on a special nutrition program from what I read so its clear that she is monitoring her size. She needs instead to build muscle and do exercises that give her the long lean look.

It's the athlete's job to watch it, not yours.

It IS a body image thing, it's all related. Eating disorders run rampant through all of figure skating - male and female. It's a problem if you're talking about a man's weight too, but that almost never comes up on these boards. But everyone is quick to judge a females weight and body.

Sometimes I wish athletes built like Brian Joubert and Mae Berenice could have an easier time competing. They look like real athletes. Some of the stick figures have uninspiring physiques but better results in the jumps.

It is the athlete's job to handle most of the topics discussed on here, so we might not have a board by your logic. We could just have long cheer threads.
