If anyone can salvage a busted up season it's Kaetlyn. Two years ago she was injured through most of the season and won the short in her first go at Senior Nats and went to JW. This program just won't get to where she needs it to be in 2 months but you can bet she sells the crap out of it in Sochi. What may be on her side is that medal is out of the picture so she can skate freely again as she did in London.

As for the lutz it's not perfect but you can certainly rationalize no call. It's high and strong now which is great. A sekret source told me last year that national callers are very reluctant to call her edges at the challenge or at nats to avoid sending that message or signal internationally. Expect that element to be left alone in Ottawa, too.

Wow for all the potential drama leading up the ladies event this year, it's certainly looking like an Osmond-Daleman pairing in Sochi. Nothing's a lock but will be hard to yank these two out of their Olympic jackets.

Osmond didn't get an edge call at Challenge, but she did at Nationals (http://results.skatecanada.ca/2012-2...gesDetails.pdf).

I am so happy to know that Kaetlyn is returning from injury relatively strong and prepared. I became interested in Gaby after watching her skate at WTT 2013 and her growth is not a surprise. I too think these two ladies very likely to podium barring an unforseen circumstances. Whatever the outcome, good luck to all the ladies.

Thank you Rock2 for agreeing with me that she flutzed. Osmond is a flutzer and did so at every major competition that she competed at last year except the Challenge.

However I disagree with the part that "national callers are very reluctant to call her edges at the challenge or at nats" because they called and edge on Daleman's flip at the challenge. This call combined with the no call on Osmond's flutz gave Osmond the win at Challenge. Osmond received 1.26 +GOE's on the flutz and Daleman received -0.98 GOE for her lip. So they should have actually tied or Daleman should have won with the no call. They also called Mallet's flutz and Chartrand's lip as well.

If you watch the streaming closely you can see that she was on an outside edge but then her ankle turns inwards and she takes off on the inside edge.

The lutz edge is hard to tell from that angle at best. It looks like the slightest turnover to an inside from this angle, but one would have to see another angle to make conclusions. I am okay with either the call for edge or no edge in this case. I am not surprised they placed this jump at that specific spot in relation to the tech panel and judges.

I think I'm detecting some definite non-love for Osmond in some quarters...

This makes no sense. Rock2 was talking about the callers not calling Osmond's edges. Which is exactly what you describe happening at Challenge - they didn't call Osmond's edge (although I agree it was unclear as to whether she flutzed) but they called Daleman's, Mallet's, and Chartrand's.

It's just sk8hrd non-love for Osmond and love for Daleman. Daleman edge call was very obvious on second lutz.

Rock2 was talking about the caller not calling Osmond's edges "at the challenge or at nats to avoid sending that message or signal internationally", but we have more than one lady competing internationally! Let's be fair to all the ladies competing! Rock2 also stated "Expect that element to be left alone in Ottawa, too." Is everyone in this thread okay with that? Are you okay with that overedge? I hope the playing field is level at nationals.

No Really, I actually like Osmond a lot and think she has done a terrific job. I just get tired of all the other girls getting forgotten about or knocked down (to Juniorish, not refined enough, etc..). we have a lot of terrific girls that are doing a really great job out there, but we don't acknowledge them enough! If we want our young Canadian ladies to do well internationally we have to start talking them up in these forums.

Wait, is that how it works in judging?

I think its important to have the skaters edge calls correct at every competition for fairness. It would be nice to see more Canadian ladies skaters having good international results and we've definitely seeing an improvement and steps forward but to think that talking them up on this site is going to improve their results is laughable at best and delusional at worst. But if you want to give it a shot why not start a thread about one of them.
When watching live I like everyone to skate clean - but on television the occasional trainwreck can be fun.

As I said earlier, Osmond got an edge call on her lutz at nationals. Not a challenge.

If you want to use forums to try and promote other canadian ladies use the other thread - Canadian Ladies Uber. Look at the title of this thread - Kaetlyn Osmond

She didn't get an edge call on her second lutz! She got an edge call on her flip. Her second lutz was huge and should have scored the same as Osmond's flutz, +2's across the board, but instead +1's and 0's.

I like Osmond a lot (as I have stated earlier) and I'm really impressed at how fast she has risen in such a short time. I just get tired of your obvious non-love of Daleman, hohoho. More than one girl in Canada can rise quickly as well, she is 15 and already doing 3Lz+3T and has 7 triples in her FS.

I haven't degraded Daleman at anytime. I merely stated that she is not where Osmond is yet. I think she has improved a lot since she won junior 2 years ago.

My mistake on the 2nd lutz.

I'm was not intending to promote other Canadian ladies in this thread, I was just stating she flutzed her lutz and was not called on it, in response to others saying that her lutz was clean and better. Sorry if the truth hurts. But I will go to the Canadian Ladies Uber and start promoting the other ladies there if you wish. I also like Chartrand and Mallet is becoming another rising lady for me - sorry for mentioning other names here.

Same tech specialist for all skaters in the competition. I don't see the flutz. Guess that is why I only watch performances

    Osmond back on Olympic path

Walia said the Sherwood skater is competing at a level they were hoping she would be at this time, even after her injury woes.

“She is actually right on track,” he said. “With the injuries, it has been a bit of a struggle and disappointing for her, but she has kept a very positive attitude and has been working as hard as she could. Now I think she is where she should be and is able to do all of her triples and skating very well in practice. She has really been working hard and is very positive. She comes to the rink with a smile on her face every day and ready to work and it has really been paying off.

“It was good that she was able to do so well with her long program in Regina and I think she feels really excited and confident for nationals in January.”

Yes, she looked great! She skated her short program, two exhibition pieces and a group number. The short program has been uploaded to you tube...I hope this link works
