    Pinterest (I Don't Get It...)

I volunteer at our local library with the computer classes. One upcoming class is on Pinterest and Flickr. I used to use flickr, so I have some knowledge of it and understand its' purpose (although I use facebook and youtube to share photos now...) Anyway, I checked out pinterest once and thought it looked boring and not useful. Now that there's a class coming up where I'm helping the library, I checked out pinterest at wikipedia and looked at the site again. Again, I don't get it. It seems like picture-sharing, but it seems very limited compared to facebook (and flickr).

So what am I missing? What's the appeal/worthiness of pinterest?

I don't get searching other peoples pinterests (or why people look at mine) but I like being able to pin pictures to a board -- the visual memory helps me a lot more than random website listings in my bookmarks folder, which is what I used to use.

I have a board on mid-century modern decorating for MIL's house -- every time I saw something cool I pinned it, and then it was easy to go back and look at the pinned pics and then click through to the vendor that sold THAT piece of pottery or THIS lamp.

I like it, particularly for finding recipe ideas.

I'm like you Peter. My sister and niece use it constantly (judging by the number of things I see on their Facebook pages) but for me, if I want images, I'll just google them. I'm much more entertained by wiki-walking.

I can understand my sisters use of it, I guess- she's a real estate agent.

I have found tons of cool teaching ideas on pinterest. They are not just pictures but they connect to blogs/webpages that give lesson plans, game ideas, etc.

I have a pinterest, but I have not posted anything for a few months, I got a bit bored with it. I agree though, it can be helpful if you want to brainstorm ideas for decorating, a wedding, gardening, recipes etc.

MyLittlePony -- not really for directly buying stuff -- but the link can get you back to the webpage it came from. But sometimes I pinned pictures just because they were, say, exactly MIL's kitchen, but done up different ways. (There are about 1000 homes in her area that were built by the same builder fifty years ago, and only about a dozen different basic kitchen layouts.) Or even paint color combos I really liked.

It's only really interesting for those who need some inspiration fodder. I like to joke that everyone's planning their wedding on Pinterest, and it's true.

I am a Pinterest addict. I love to cook and bake so it is very easy to spend a lot of time on there. I go straight to the Food and Drink section and pin any recipe I might even have a 1% chance of wanting to make some day. Why not, it isn't as if you can only pin stuff you are committing to making, right? People use it for wedding ideas, house decorating ideas, fashion, etc. etc. I don't care about those other things but even still I find I can spend tons of time on there just looking at recipes. As matter of fact, tomorrow I am cooking a whole chicken in the crock pot which is something I would never have thought of doing if it weren't for finding it on Pinterest today. I was planning 2 meals involving chicken this week and I saved a ton of money buying a whole chicken. I just didn't know you could do it in the crock pot! Not only will I have plenty of chicken but also some broth as well without all the sodium.

I love it! I am a cake decorator and crafter and I cook and it is a simple way to keep ideas together. I also keep ideas for skating costumes. It's a nice visual reference. You just create a board (like a scrapbook or manila file folder or LOL a binder), and pin away. No scissors, no page numbers, no hunting, no physical clutter. If you find items in your 'style" from another pinner, you can follow and keep getting their ideas as well. If you click, usually you will get a link to where it came from (a blog for example).

I have a couple girl friends who are fanatical about keeping their pins current - if the try a pinned recipe and it sucks they remove it. So I know anything from them is going to be a winner.

PS - I've done the crockpot chicken recipe. If your recipe doesn't say to put it on big balls of foil, you will want your chicken on big balls of foil - esp if your chicken isn't organic/free range. It keeps it from standing in greasy liquid.

I do take the liquid and remove the fat and make gravy though.
