In his biography it says he worked security during the late '80s and until 1997. My memory says it could easily have been Duncan who suddenly appeared as one of the bodyguard for Dick Button and Peggy Fleming at 1994 Nationals after Nancy Kerrigan was attacked.

I'm not sure it was he but the one of the two men who suddenly appeared in the ABC booth was very, very big and I have always thought it was Duncan. I wonder if anyone knows for sure.

So sorry for his family and loved ones. May they have peace.

There are very few actors who, when they've died, brought me to tears -- Michael Clarke Duncan is one of them. His death was unexpected and sadly shocking news, but if I had to wager a guess, it is due to The Green Mile, and specifically MCD's acting in it, that was truly special. The Green Mile is one of my absolute favorite movies (and one I can watch over and over without getting burned out on it); TGM, along with The Shawshank Redemption, are IMO Stephen King at his best as an author. As a novel, The Green Mile is compelling; as a movie, it is stellar in that the screenplay adaptation stayed about as true to the book as can possibly be done, and MCD as John Coffey is IMO one of the best and most accurate cinematic portrayals of a literary character in the history of filmmaking.

Ironically, I just watched it this weekend (nothing good was on TV so I pulled out the DVD) -- I cannot watch it without turning into a blubbering mess at the end of it, no matter how many times I've seen it. Each time I watch it, I am blown away all over again by Michael Clarke Duncan's portrayal of John Coffey. It is nothing short of incredible, and IMO he wuzrobbed of the Oscar that year. Tom Hanks was amazing in it as well, and the chemistry between the two of them is a large part of what made TGM such a great movie.

"I'm tired, Boss"/Watching the "flicker show" - one of the many poignant scenes between Hanks and MCD.

    ********

On a different note, last week I also caught the episode of Two and a Half Men in which MCD guest stars as Charlie's new neighbor (which turned into a recurring role in the series). It's one of the show's funniest episodes -- MCD plays a former pro football player and over-protective Dad whose daughter disappears with Jake (with both kids forgetting their cell phones). The episode was done at the point when Sheen was at his best during the series, and his scenes with MCD are hilarious, especially this one:

Yo Bitch I'm Gonna Slap You Up (the infamous cell phone scene)

Another classic scene from Two and a Half Men with Michael Clarke Duncan (different episode), with Charlie, Alan, MCD, Herb (Alan's ex-wife's new husband), and Gordon, the Pizza Guy. They're playing the male equivalent of the game "I Never," which turns into lamenting about their ex-wives/lovers:

How sad and how sad for his fiance (regardless of who she is). 54 is way too young.

How sad. I thought that he was home recuperating. The heart attack must have done more damage than was thought. Poor guy.

So saddened by the news but not entirely shocked. The Green Mile is one of my favorite movies (it has most of my favorite actors.) MCD should have won the Oscar for it. RIP!

He was a very versatile actor, who defied "type".
I'm so sorry to hear this.
